Safety Specialist

Job Description

The Safety Specialist is the primary SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) specialist for multiple R&D facilities. You will work collaboratively with the Lead Safety Specialist and other members of the Workplace Services team. This role involves working in diverse environments, including office settings, research laboratories, and automotive garages, with approximately 20% travel expected.

Responsibilities

• Conduct basic risk assessments and hazard analyses.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
• Assist in the development and delivery of safety training programs.
• Document and report safety incidents and near misses.
• Participate in safety audits and inspections.
• Support emergency response planning and drills.
• Monitor and maintain safety equipment and supplies.
• Collect and analyze safety data to identify trends.
• Collect and report hazardous materials-related data to state and federal regulators.
• Collect and report safety and environmental data to MB AG.
• Maintain and update site-specific emergency response action plans and procedures.
• Provide SHE technical support for site-specific initiatives and projects.
• Perform safety and environmental compliance/project duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

• Safety certifications such as OSHA 30-hour or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or similar.
• Prior experience in management systems such as VPP, ISO 9001, ISO, or OHSAS.
• Basic understanding of safety regulations, standards, and programs (OSHA, EPA, IIPP, SPCC, etc.).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to effectively organize, prioritize, and plan daily work in an unstructured work environment.
• Ability to work in both corporate office and field environments.
• Ability to carry a company-provided cell phone and respond as needed for emergencies.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Equivalent work experience accepted in lieu of formal education.

Work Environment

The work environment varies from office settings to research laboratories and automotive garages. Approximately 20% travel is expected. You should be comfortable working in both corporate office and field environments and be prepared to carry a company-provided cell phone to respond to emergencies as needed.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
