The Roadway Technician conducts density and related field tests, documents all findings accurately, and collaborates closely with project managers, contractors, and agency representatives to support safe, high-quality infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities- Perform roadway inspection and quality assurance testing in accordance with NCDOT standards and project requirements.
- Conduct density testing and related field testing activities using appropriate equipment and procedures.
- Document testing results and inspection observations accurately, clearly, and completely.
- Communicate findings and test results with project managers, contractors, and agency representatives in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain testing equipment, including density gauges and related tools, and ensure proper calibration and operational readiness.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures at all times while working on active construction sites.
- Assist with project reporting and recordkeeping requirements, including preparation of detailed reports and maintenance of accurate records.
- Support quality assurance and quality management activities by following NCDOT specifications, testing procedures, and documentation requirements.
- Travel to project sites as needed and perform field work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Current NCDOT QMS Roadway Technician Certification.
- Current NCDOT QMS Density Gauge Technician Certification.
- Experience using density gauges and related field testing equipment.
- Prior experience in roadway construction inspection, materials testing, or quality management.
- Familiarity with NCDOT specifications, testing procedures, and documentation requirements.
- Ability to perform roadway inspections and quality assurance testing in accordance with NCDOT standards.
- Ability to maintain and calibrate testing equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in various weather conditions on active construction sites.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare detailed reports.
- NCDOT Conventional Density Technician Certification (preferred but not required).
- Experience with materials testing and quality assurance in roadway construction environments.
- Familiarity with quality management practices in infrastructure and construction materials testing.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety, integrity, and professional growth.

This position is based in North Carolina and involves regular work outdoors on active roadway and construction sites.
