Description
The Resident Engineer (Healthcare) oversees construction of hospitals, clinics, and medical facilities, ensuring compliance with stringent regulatory requirements (e.g., HCAI/OSHPD in California), infection control protocols, and operational continuity in active healthcare environments. Key Responsibilities: - Administer construction contracts with emphasis on healthcare regulations and approvals - Ensure compliance with HCAI/OSHPD, building codes, and seismic requirements - Coordinate construction in occupied/operational facilities (phased construction) - Oversee infection control risk assessments (ICRA) and containment procedures - Monitor installation of complex MEP systems (HVAC, medical gas, electrical redundancy) - Coordinate inspections with regulatory authorities and inspectors of record (IOR) - Manage submittals for specialized healthcare systems and equipment - Ensure contractor adherence to noise, vibration, and dust control requirements - Facilitate coordination between hospital staff and construction teams - Oversee commissioning and validation of critical systems Typical Day-to-Day Activities - Review infection control measures (barriers, negative air, clean paths) - Coordinate with hospital operations to avoid disruption to patient care - Conduct site walks focusing on MEP installations and life safety systems - Attend coordination meetings with IOR, inspectors, and design team - Review submittals (medical gas systems, HVAC filtration, backup power) - Address issues related to working in active environments (noise, access) - Verify compliance with approved phasing and shutdown plans - Track inspections and approvals required by HCAI/OSHPD - Oversee testing and commissioning activities - Resolve field conflicts between trades in tight, complex spaces

Minimum Qualifications: - Possession of a bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, planning, or landscape architecture - Possession of a Current Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California in Civil Engineering - Possession of a current HAZWOPER Certificate - Three (3) years verifiable professional engineering experience; Infrastructure experience in the public right of way a plus.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $69.00 - $74.00/hr.
