Job Title: Inpatient Clinical DietitianJob Description

This inpatient clinical dietitian role focuses on providing comprehensive nutritional care to patients in hospital units, with a particular emphasis on critical care and intensive care settings. The position involves assessing complex medical and biochemical data, developing individualized nutrition care plans, and contributing to high-quality patient outcomes in a leading pediatric hospital environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide basic and advanced nutritional care to patients on assigned inpatient units, including critical care and ICU settings.
  • Evaluate medical histories, biochemical data, and nutritional information to accurately assess patient needs and clinical risks.
  • Develop, document, and implement individualized nutrition care plans that align with patients’ medical conditions and treatment goals.
  • Monitor and adjust nutrition interventions based on changes in patient status, laboratory values, and interdisciplinary care plans.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to integrate nutrition care into overall patient treatment.
  • Educate patients and families on nutrition-related topics to support understanding of care plans and promote long-term health.
  • Assist in supervising the daily work of dietetic technicians, providing guidance, direction, and support to ensure high-quality service.
  • Ensure compliance with professional standards, hospital policies, and regulatory requirements related to nutrition and dietetics.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, and patient progress in the medical record.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement activities related to nutrition services and patient care.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • 3–5 years of experience in critical care or ICU nutrition support.
  • Active licensure as a dietitian in Massachusetts (MA Dietitian License).
  • Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) or eligibility and strong knowledge of nutrition support in critical care settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret medical and biochemical data to inform nutrition assessments and interventions.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing individualized nutrition care plans for hospitalized patients.
  • Ability to supervise and direct dietetic technicians in daily workflows.
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills in complex patient care situations.
  • Effective communication skills for working with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, patients, and families.
  • Solid organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple patients and priorities in a fast-paced inpatient environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Pediatric experience in an inpatient or critical care setting is highly desirable.
  • Experience working in a high-acuity hospital environment.
  • Commitment to evidence-based practice and ongoing professional development in nutrition and dietetics.
  • Ability to provide clear, compassionate education to patients and families about nutrition care.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and patient records.
Work Environment

This position is based on site at the main hospital and follows a Monday through Friday schedule from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The role is fully inpatient and requires working directly on hospital units, including critical care and ICU areas, in a fast-paced, high-acuity clinical environment. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary healthcare teams and use standard hospital information systems and clinical tools to support patient care. The setting emphasizes excellence in pediatric care, teamwork, and a patient-centered approach. Professional clinical attire appropriate for an inpatient hospital environment is expected.

This is a Contract position based out of Boston, MA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $55.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
