Overview:
Join a mission-driven, community-based healthcare system dedicated to improving access and outcomes in women’s health and underserved populations. As a Referral Coordinator, you will play a key role in ensuring patients receive timely, coordinated care by managing referrals, securing authorizations, and supporting patients through the healthcare system.
What You’ll Do
- Review and process incoming referrals for completeness and clinical appropriateness
- Follow up with providers, health plans, and referral sources to obtain missing information
- Coordinate and schedule specialty and diagnostic appointments
- Verify insurance coverage, benefits, and network requirements (HMO, PPO, Medicare, Medi-Cal)
- Obtain prior authorizations and ensure timely approvals
- Maintain accurate patient records in the EMR system (NextGen preferred)
- Track referral status from intake through completion to ensure continuity of care
- Communicate with patients to explain referral processes and address barriers (financial, social, or system-related)
- Serve as a point of contact and advocate for patients navigating care
What We’re Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 2 years of experience in referral coordination, medical office, or similar setting preferred
- Medical Assistant training/certification a plus
- Strong understanding of insurance authorization processes and medical terminology (ICD-10/CPT)
- Experience with EMR systems (NextGen preferred)
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through
- Clear, professional communication skills and strong customer service mindset
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based environment
- Bilingual skills preferred
