Job Description

As a Quality Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring that products and processes comply with nuclear, medical device, and other regulatory quality standards. You will oversee incoming, in-process, and final inspection activities, manage supplier quality programs, maintain training and quality documentation, and ensure adherence to NQA-1 and ISO 9001:2015 standards within a manufacturing environment focused on medical device testing equipment and radiation detection products.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and oversee incoming inspections of raw materials, components, and finished products using appropriate measurement tools and inspection methods.
  • Conduct in-process inspections to verify that parts, assemblies, and products comply with established quality standards and drawing tolerances.
  • Perform final inspections to confirm that finished products meet all specified requirements and customer expectations.
  • Plan, perform, and complete First Article Inspections (FAI) in collaboration with manufacturing and engineering teams, ensuring accurate measurement and documentation of new or revised parts.
  • Document inspection results thoroughly and maintain accurate, organized records in accordance with quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate the Supplier Corrective Action Request (SCAR) program, including issuing requests, monitoring supplier response timeliness, and verifying the effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Conduct supplier audits, surveys, and assessments to evaluate supplier performance and compliance with applicable quality and regulatory standards.
  • Assist in identifying and resolving quality-related issues using structured problem-solving tools such as 5 Whys and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Maintain compliance with NQA-1 standards and ensure that quality processes and procedures align with nuclear and other regulatory requirements.
  • Collect, analyze, and assemble quality data to support continuous improvement initiatives and management reporting.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of experience in a Quality Specialist, Quality Engineer, or Quality Technician role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience performing incoming, in-process, and final inspections in a production or laboratory setting.
  • Strong knowledge of quality inspection methods, tools, and equipment, including experience with micrometers and calipers.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality management systems and NQA-1 standards or similar nuclear quality standards.
  • Ability to use problem-solving tools such as 5 Whys and Root Cause Analysis to investigate and resolve quality issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for data analysis, documentation, and reporting.
  • Experience using Quality Management Software to record inspections, manage nonconformances, and track corrective actions.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and tolerances for mechanical components and assemblies.

Work Environment

This role is based at a small manufacturing site that includes laboratory and office spaces dedicated to medical device testing equipment and radiation detection/instrumentation products.

You will work in an inspection lab and on the production floor, spending roughly half of your time at a desk performing documentation and data analysis and half on the floor working directly with engineers, operations, and production staff on parts inspection and drawing tolerances.

The team is close-knit, with a quality, service, and production group of around 20 people, offering a collaborative environment and exposure to upcoming projects in the nuclear industry.
