The Quality Engineer supports and improves quality systems, product conformity, and customer satisfaction in a precision aerospace machining environment. This role works closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Purchasing, and Supply Chain teams to ensure full compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements. The position focuses on monitoring and improving quality metrics, interpreting and applying material specifications, and driving continuous improvement across processes and products.
Responsibilities- Support, maintain, and improve quality systems to ensure consistent product conformity in a precision aerospace machining environment.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Purchasing, and Supply Chain teams to ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements.
- Monitor, analyze, and report on quality metrics and performance data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles to verify and validate product dimensions and tolerances.
- Conduct root cause analysis on nonconformities and implement effective corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
- Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of corrective action systems and quality management processes.
- Ensure adherence to AS9100 requirements and customer-specific aerospace standards throughout the organization.
- Review and interpret aerospace material specifications and certifications to verify compliance with applicable requirements.
- Participate in or support first article inspections (FAIs) in accordance with AS9102 when required.
- Assist in preparing for and supporting customer and regulatory audits related to quality systems and product compliance.
- Work with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product quality and customer satisfaction.
- Document and maintain quality records, reports, and related documentation in alignment with quality management system requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 3 years of quality engineering experience in an aerospace or precision machining environment.
- Proficiency in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Strong experience working with quality metrics and performance data.
- Solid understanding of aerospace material specifications and certifications.
- Working knowledge of AS9100 and customer-specific aerospace quality requirements.
- Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action systems.
- Background in quality engineering, quality control, and quality management within aerospace or precision machining environments.
- Experience with first article inspections (FAIs) in accordance with AS9102.
- Exposure to or experience with special processes in aerospace manufacturing.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and quality management software or platforms.
- Experience supporting customer and regulatory quality audits.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail when reviewing technical data and specifications.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on enhancing product quality and customer satisfaction.
This position is based onsite five days per week in Decatur, Alabama, within a precision aerospace machining facility. The work environment is highly technical and quality-focused, involving close collaboration with Manufacturing, Engineering, Purchasing, and Supply Chain teams. The role operates within a structured quality management system aligned with AS9100 and aerospace customer requirements, and may involve working with ERP/MRP and other quality-related systems. The facility supports hands-on interaction with machined aerospace components, material certifications, and inspection documentation, and emphasizes adherence to established processes, documentation standards, and continuous improvement practices.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Decatur, AL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr.
