Job Title: Construction Superintendent / Quality Control (QC) Manager
Job Description
in construction management, mechanical utility or infrastructure work, and a proven ability to coordinate complex activities in an active, mission-critical environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide onsite supervision and coordination of all construction activities for the steam tunnel rehabilitation project.
- Manage the installation of temporary steam bypass systems to maintain continuous operations during construction.
- Oversee tie-ins to temporary bypass systems and ensure the safe removal of existing steam piping and related infrastructure.
- Coordinate the installation of new steam piping systems within existing tunnel infrastructure, ensuring alignment with project drawings and specifications.
- Manage final system tie-ins to the permanent steam system and oversee removal of temporary bypass systems.
- Implement, manage, and maintain project Quality Control (QC) processes in accordance with contract requirements and USACE Construction Quality Management (CQM) standards, including the three-phase QC process.
- Ensure full compliance with construction safety standards, OSHA requirements, EM 385-1-1, and site-specific safety plans.
- Maintain thorough project documentation, including daily reports, QC reports, inspection records, and construction documents.
- Coordinate and schedule inspections, and maintain professional communication with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other government representatives.
- Monitor subcontractor performance to ensure work meets project specifications, quality expectations, and schedule requirements.
- Support construction scheduling efforts by coordinating field activities and sequencing work to minimize operational disruptions.
- Lead and participate in safety training and site safety initiatives to promote a strong safety culture.
- Review construction documents and drawings to plan work, resolve field issues, and verify compliance with project requirements.
- Communicate effectively with project stakeholders to provide updates on progress, quality, and safety.
- Organize and manage QC meetings, inspections, and documentation in alignment with federal construction project standards.
Essential Skills
- At least 5 years of experience as a Construction Superintendent or Quality Control (QC) Manager on infrastructure or mechanical utility projects.
- Demonstrated experience in construction management and onsite supervision of complex construction projects.
- Proficiency in implementing and managing Quality Control (QC) programs on construction projects, including three-phase QC processes.
- Experience with federal or Department of Defense (DoD) construction projects, preferably involving USACE requirements.
- Strong understanding of construction safety standards, OSHA regulations, and EM 385-1-1 safety guidelines.
- Proven ability to coordinate multiple subcontractors and trades to meet project schedules and quality standards.
- Excellent documentation and reporting skills, including preparation of daily reports, QC reports, and inspection records.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with government representatives and project stakeholders.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from construction drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
- Solid understanding of steam piping systems, utility infrastructure, and rehabilitation work in existing facilities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience working on Department of Defense (DoD) or other federal construction projects.
- Experience with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) projects and Construction Quality Management (CQM) processes.
- Construction Quality Management (CQM) certification preferred, or the ability to obtain it.
- OSHA 30-hour certification preferred.
- Familiarity with EM 385-1-1 safety requirements and their application on construction sites.
- Experience in quality control management (QCM) roles or combined QCM / Superintendent positions.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, documentation, and schedules.
- Experience with construction scheduling and sequencing in active, operational environments.
- Knowledge of site safety practices, safety training, and implementation of site-specific safety plans.
- High level of professionalism, reliability, and attention to detail in all aspects of project delivery.
Work Environment
The role is based onsite at West Point Military Academy in West Point, NY, primarily within and around historic underground steam tunnel infrastructure. The work environment is field-oriented and hands-on, involving regular presence in tunnel spaces, mechanical areas, and active construction zones. The position supports a federal, mission-critical infrastructure project and requires adherence to Department of Defense, USACE, OSHA, and EM 385-1-1 safety standards. You will collaborate closely with project teams, subcontractors, and government representatives in a professional and highly coordinated setting. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $125000.00/hr.
