Job Description
As a Quality Assurance Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety in our production processes. You will play a key role in reviewing and approving incoming raw materials and ingredients, conducting compliance walkthroughs, and managing supplier documentation. Your expertise will help maintain our commitment to GMP, SQF, FDA, Kosher, and Organic standards.
Responsibilities
- Review and approve incoming raw materials and ingredients, including COA verification and organoleptic evaluations.
- Conduct daily plant walkthroughs to ensure compliance with GMP, SQF, FDA, Kosher, and Organic standards.
- Collect, maintain, and manage supplier documentation, ingredient files, and quality records.
- Investigate quality issues on the production floor and communicate findings cross‑functionally.
- Reject non‑conforming materials, document issues, and ensure materials are properly placed on hold.
- Maintain ingredient reference samples, databases, and inventory accuracy.
- Support micro sampling schedules and quality lab functions as needed.
- Assist with customer quality inquiries and documentation requests.
- Work closely with QA, Operations, Purchasing, Inventory, R&D, and Customer Service teams.
Essential Skills
- Hands‑on experience with raw material and incoming ingredient inspection and approval.
- Ability to review, verify, and obtain COAs from suppliers and vendors.
- Working knowledge of GMP and SQF standards and enforcing compliance on the plant floor.
- Experience in a documentation-heavy role: collecting, maintaining, and updating supplier, ingredient, and quality records.
- Comfortable walking the production floor, investigating issues, and interacting cross‑functionally with operations, inventory, and QA.
- Quality Assurance / Quality Control experience in food, ingredient, or regulated manufacturing environments.
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through, especially with approvals, rejections, and material holds.
- Ability to taste and smell ingredients/food products as part of evaluations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- SQF certification or prior SQF audit exposure.
- Experience with ingredient‑focused QA roles (seasonings, flavors, food ingredients, raw materials).
- 1–5 years of QA/QC experience in food, CPG, personal care, fragrance, cosmetics, or pharma manufacturing.
- Experience in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related science.
- Familiarity with Kosher and Organic programs (documentation, approvals, certifications).
- Experience supporting or backing up Quality Lab / Micro sampling activities.
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, hands‑on plant environment with frequent floor interaction.
- A 'student mentality' — open to training, certifications, and long-term growth in QA.
Work Environment
This position operates in a fast-paced plant environment with frequent interactions on the production floor. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, with hours from 7am to 3pm or 8am to 4pm.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Oakland, NJ.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.
