Job Title: Project Coordinator – Packaging Equipment

Job Description

This role leads capital projects focused on packaging machinery and related equipment within a chemical manufacturing plant. The Project Manager oversees projects from concept through installation and commissioning, with a strong emphasis on conveying systems, mixers, and related process equipment. The position requires 5–10 years of project management experience, a strong sense of urgency, and the ability to drive efficiency and cost savings initiatives. This is a long-term contract opportunity (around two years) with a very high potential to transition into a permanent role, offering exposure to a large, stable organization that maintains a close-knit, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end projects for packaging machines used in production, including planning, execution, monitoring, and close-out.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage detailed project schedules around machine installation, commissioning, and integration into plant operations.
  • Coordinate equipment installation activities, ensuring proper sequencing of work, resource allocation, and adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Lead efficiency and optimization projects focused on cost savings, throughput improvements, and reduced downtime.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, operations, maintenance, and facilities teams to define project scope, requirements, and deliverables.
  • Monitor project budgets for typical project sizes ranging from approximately $300K to $1.5M, ensuring projects remain within approved cost parameters.
  • Identify project risks and issues early, develop mitigation plans, and communicate impacts and solutions to stakeholders.
  • Drive a strong sense of urgency across all project activities, proactively pushing tasks forward to meet deadlines and business objectives.
  • Schedule and coordinate factory acceptance tests and occasional travel to vendor or partner facilities as needed.
  • Ensure that projects align with plant-level priorities, recognizing that project ownership and decision-making are primarily at the plant rather than corporate level.
  • Prepare and deliver clear project updates, status reports, and documentation for leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the plant by recommending and implementing best practices in project management and equipment installation.
  • Foster strong working relationships with internal teams and external contractors, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure successful project execution.

Essential Skills

  • 5 years of project experience, preferably in an industrial, manufacturing, or engineering environment.
  • Proven experience managing projects involving packaging machines, conveying systems, and related facilities equipment.
  • Strong experience in engineering concepts sufficient to manage technical projects in a chemical plant setting.
  • Hands-on experience with equipment installation projects, including planning, scheduling, and coordination of trades and vendors.
  • Ability to create, manage, and adjust project schedules to meet milestones and deadlines.
  • Strong sense of urgency with the ability to push projects forward and hold stakeholders accountable.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams and leadership.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities within defined budgets.
  • Comfort working in a chemical factory or plant environment with complex machinery and processes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working for or with engineering firms or large industrial organizations is highly desired.
  • Experience managing projects schedules and aligning supply chain teams.
  • Ability to work effectively with subcontractors, vendors, and external partners.
  • Interest in long-term career growth within a large organization that offers relocation and internal mobility opportunities.
  • Willingness to occasionally provide coverage across different shifts on a volunteer basis when needed.
