Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Architect to lead pre-design, design, and construction-phase activities within a collaborative design-build environment. The Architect will perform zoning and code checks, develop preliminary design concepts, coordinate construction documentation, and represent the organization at municipal and client meetings while working closely with project managers, superintendents, consultants, and clients.

Responsibilities

• Complete initial zoning and building code checks to determine project feasibility and compliance.
• Attend meetings with owners and clients to understand project requirements, present design concepts, and address questions.
• Develop preliminary sketches and design concepts to support budgeting and pre-design estimates.
• Document modifications from preliminary sketches and compare revisions against project estimates and budgets.
• Establish the schedule of drawings and allocate associated hours for preliminary design and construction documents.
• Secure consultant quotes for civil engineering, geotechnical borings, and landscape design services.
• Represent the organization professionally at municipal meetings, including planning, zoning, and permitting hearings.
• Collaborate with project managers and superintendents during the construction phase to ensure design intent and constructability.
• Prepare, submit, and secure building permits and other required approvals for construction.
• Review and approve all shop drawings to confirm conformance with design, specifications, and code requirements.
• Coordinate closely with the construction team in a design-build environment, taking shared responsibility for project outcomes.
• Work directly with clients throughout the project lifecycle, maintaining strong communication and managing expectations.

Essential Skills

• At least five years of experience working as an architect.
• Bachelors degree in architecture or a closely related field.
• Architectural license preferred.
• Proven ability to work directly with clients in a professional and collaborative manner.
• Experience managing projects or serving as a project manager is a plus.
• Ability to work effectively with a construction team in a design-build setting.
• Strong knowledge of international building codes and related code series.
• Solid understanding of planning and zoning ordinances and their application to commercial projects.
• Experience with the submittal process for construction documents, including permitting and approvals.
• Proficiency in CAD software.
• Proficiency in SketchUp.
• Proficiency in Revit.
• Experience with architecture, architectural design, drafting, and construction documents.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with dental offices is a plus.
• Experience with small to mid-sized commercial projects is a plus.
• Ability to represent the organization confidently and professionally in municipal and public meetings.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with clients, consultants, and construction teams.
• Ability to balance design quality, code compliance, and constructability within a design-build framework.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jackson, WI.

The pay range for this position is $55000.00 - $95000.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
