This role focuses heavily on programming from scratch, integrating new equipment and technologies, and leading troubleshooting efforts to minimize downtime on production lines and facility equipment. The position offers the opportunity to play a key role in fully automating the facility and increasing throughput while working closely with other engineers and technical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and program new PLC control systems from scratch for automation projects, taking them from initial concept through to completion.
  • Conduct routine and advanced PLC program modifications as part of project upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead troubleshooting of PLC-controlled equipment and systems to minimize production downtime and support reliable plant operations.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for electrical issues on production lines, facility equipment, and infrastructure across the campus.
  • Design and implement control systems that use sensors, motion control, and feedback loops to optimize equipment performance and product throughput.
  • Perform integration work for new and existing equipment, including evaluating systems on the plant floor, comparing them to blueprints and schematics, and reworking programs as needed.
  • Support and provide oversight for new equipment installations in partnership with on-site electricians, ensuring proper controls integration and functionality.
  • Read, interpret, and work from electrical and mechanical schematics, prints, and overall equipment layouts to guide programming and troubleshooting activities.
  • Interpret and apply NEC, NEMA, NFPA, and OSHA codes in the design and modification of control systems to ensure compliance and safety.
  • Demonstrate and promote safe work practices at all times to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Collaborate closely with other engineers and technical team members to support the broader initiative to fully automate multiple plants across the campus.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures in daily work and project execution.
  • Perform other related duties as required to support operations, automation projects, and continuous improvement efforts.
Essential Skills
  • Proven ability to program PLCs from scratch, including development, interface, and troubleshooting, with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience with PLC troubleshooting to quickly diagnose and resolve control system issues.
  • Strong experience in integrations and migrations from one technology platform to another, including programming for new equipment and upgraded systems.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from electrical and mechanical schematics, prints, and overall equipment layouts.
  • Familiarity with NEC, NEMA, NFPA, and OSHA code compliance and the ability to interpret and apply these codes in practical settings.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment, including exposure to production lines, equipment installations, and plant operations.
  • Ability to provide oversight and occasional troubleshooting support for new equipment installations in partnership with on-site electricians.
  • Experience with RS500, RS5000, Studio 5000, and View Studio software for PLC and HMI programming.
  • Experience with servo motors and controls, including configuration, programming, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of 3-phase electrical power applications and their use in industrial control systems.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills and experience working with electrical schematics and control systems.
  • Ability to assess systems on the plant floor, compare them to blueprints and schematics, and adjust or rework programs as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • A four-year degree in Electrical Technology or Control Systems is preferred.
  • Alternatively, 4–6 years of relevant electrical controls technician experience in manufacturing is required if a degree is not held, supported by certifications or clearly demonstrated capabilities.
  • Experience in electrical engineering or closely related technical disciplines is beneficial.
  • Hands-on experience with equipment installation and integration in a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to act with autonomy while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Comfort working in a project-based environment with a focus on new automation initiatives and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to support expansion efforts by integrating new formulations and products into existing production lines with higher throughput.
Work Environment

This role operates in a mixed setting, with approximately 60% of time spent in a manufacturing environment and 40% in an office environment. The position requires regular movement between multiple plants located within close proximity on a shared campus, with walking and occasional use of golf carts to travel between facilities.
