We are seeking a skilled and dedicated phlebotomist with over two years of recent phlebotomy experience. The ideal candidate will be proficient with straight and butterfly needles, reliable, punctual, and possess strong communication skills. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred, though if not bilingual, three years of experience is required. Pediatric experience is highly prioritized, and the candidate must be comfortable working with children and instructing parents.
Responsibilities- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and handle decontamination processes.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures, ensuring all steps are followed to maintain specimen integrity.
- Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously to patients.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
- Verify test requisitions against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport, adhering to necessary protocols.
- Store specimen samples according to required temperatures and label appropriately.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with specimen collection and venipuncture using straight needles and butterfly needles.
- Ability to work with pediatric patients and instruct parents effectively.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
- Experience with pediatric patients is a priority.
- Comfort with handling pediatric patients and performing heel sticks.
The position is based at a Patient Service Center in Arverne, Queens, near Far Rockaway. The phlebotomist will see 40-50 patients daily, with a significant number being children under the age of 10, requiring the use of butterfly needles. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm, with optional weekend shifts available on Saturdays, typically from 8 am to 5 pm or 8 am to 3 pm. This is a two-person site environment.
