The phlebotomist performs blood draws at a patient services center, providing safe, accurate, and compassionate specimen collection while delivering a positive experience for every patient.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws and other specimen collections accurately and safely in a patient services center.
- Verify patient identity and ensure all specimens are correctly labeled and documented.
- Prepare patients for blood collection by explaining procedures and answering questions in a clear and reassuring manner.
- Follow established protocols and safety procedures for phlebotomy and specimen handling.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the phlebotomy area, equipment, and supplies.
- Deliver courteous and professional customer service to patients, visitors, and healthcare staff.
- Handle specimens in accordance with laboratory requirements to ensure sample integrity.
- Report any issues, complications, or unusual patient reactions during or after blood collection to appropriate personnel.
- Proven experience performing blood draws in a clinical or patient services setting.
- Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques and safe specimen collection.
- Strong attention to detail for accurate patient identification and specimen labeling.
- Effective customer service skills with a professional and compassionate demeanor.
- Ability to follow established procedures and safety protocols.
- Phlebotomy certification.
- Previous experience working in a patient services center or similar healthcare environment.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with patients and healthcare staff.
- Ability to remain calm and reassuring when working with anxious or nervous patients.
This role is based in a patient services center environment where the phlebotomist works directly with patients for blood collection. The position involves frequent interaction with patients and healthcare staff, regular use of phlebotomy equipment and supplies, and adherence to strict safety and infection control procedures. The work requires standing for portions of the day, handling biohazard materials in a controlled setting, and maintaining a clean, orderly, and professional appearance appropriate for a clinical healthcare environment.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Arlington, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $16.00 - $23.00/hr.
