Job Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The position involves experience in blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information.

Responsibilities

• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the process of venipuncture, blood drawing, and other specimen collections, such as urine or fecal, in a clear and courteous manner.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand and comply with all physicians' orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels are correct by checking against the script.
• Package specimens for transport and store them according to the required temperature.
• Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow different procedures as outlined by protocol to maintain specimen integrity.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.
• Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2-4 years of experience in the field.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in phlebotomy, blood draw, specimen collection, and specimen processing.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Lauderdale, FL.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Fort Lauderdale,FL.
