Job Description
This Phlebotomist role focuses on drawing patients’ blood and performing specimen processing in a physician office setting. You will collect and receive biological specimens, accurately enter data into the laboratory computer system, prepare samples for analytical testing, and ensure specimens reach the appropriate analytical area. The position includes responsibility for pre- and post-analytical activities and performing specified analytical tests while adhering to established codes of conduct and laboratory standards.
Responsibilities
- Draw blood from patients in a professional, safe, and compassionate manner within a physician office setting.
- Collect and receive biological specimens and verify patient and specimen identification to ensure accuracy.
- Accurately enter patient and specimen information into the laboratory’s computer system.
- Prepare specimens for analytical testing, including labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, and organizing samples as required.
- Distribute specimens to the appropriate analytical areas in a timely and organized manner.
- Perform specified analytical tests as assigned, following established laboratory protocols and procedures.
- Maintain responsibility for both pre-analytical and post-analytical aspects of testing, including proper handling, storage, and documentation of specimens.
- Follow all applicable codes of conduct, policies, and procedures to ensure patient safety, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate closely with medical assistants and other clinical staff to support efficient patient flow and high-quality patient care.
- Work independently to manage daily workload, prioritize tasks, and meet turnaround time expectations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with laboratory and office standards.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with patients and clinical staff regarding specimen collection procedures and any related questions.
Essential Skills
- At least 1 year of prior phlebotomy experience in a clinical or laboratory setting
- Demonstrated proficiency in venipuncture and specimen collection techniques.
- Ability to work comfortably and effectively in an independent role.
- Experience with specimen processing, including preparing samples for analytical testing and routing them to appropriate areas.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to accurately enter data into a laboratory information system.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate patient and specimen identification.
- Excellent interpersonal and patient-care skills, with the ability to interact respectfully and professionally with patients and clinical staff.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to laboratory protocols and codes of conduct.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a physician office or clinic environment is preferred.
- Experience in laboratory operations or medical office procedures is beneficial.
- Proven ability to collaborate with medical assistants and other clinical staff to support patient care.
- History of reliability and positive performance in prior phlebotomy roles.
- Candidates who are former employees may be considered if they left more than 6 months ago and departed on good terms, subject to a rehire check.

Work Environment
This role is based inside a physician’s office, where you will serve as the on-site phlebotomist drawing the physician’s patients and working closely with medical assistants. The typical schedule runs Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You will work in a clinical setting that includes standard laboratory equipment and computer systems used for specimen processing and data entry. The environment is patient-facing, fast-paced, and highly collaborative, requiring professional attire appropriate for a medical office and adherence to all clinical safety and hygiene standards. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Phoenix, AZ.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.36/hr.
