Job Title: Phlebotomist - Warrenton

Job Description

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.
• Decontaminate and update patient information.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture blood drawing and other specimen collection processes clearly and courteously.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand all physicians' orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport.
• Store specimen samples according to required temperature, place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, and accurately label them.
• Follow different procedures as outlined by specific protocols to maintain the integrity of the specimen for transport.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department training sessions.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2 years of experience as a phlebotomist.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in OBGYN is preferred.
• Experience in IOP is a plus.

Work Environment

The work environment is Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. The role is based in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
