Phlebotomist (Poughkeepsie)

The Phlebotomist provides expertise in blood draws and specimen preparation. Their ability to put patients at ease and obtain sufficient samples with minimal discomfort to patients across a wide demographic is critical to our commitment to high-quality care.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
• Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
• Decontaminate equipment and update patient information.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
• Fully understand all physicians' orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport.
• Store specimen samples at required temperatures and follow procedures for transport.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Wear appropriate attire including protective gear.
• Attend annual department training.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.

• Proficiency in phlebotomy and blood draw techniques.
• Experience with pediatric phlebotomy.
• Strong administrative skills and attention to detail.
• 2-3 years of experience in drawing blood.

• Ability to travel within the state.
• Clear communication skills and a courteous demeanor.

The work schedule is Monday to Friday, 9am-6pm, with shifts every other Saturday or Sunday in Newburgh or Poughkeepsie. The position offers a change of scenery with in-state travel opportunities.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Poughkeepsie, NY.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
