Job Title: Phlebotomist - Bayonne
Job Description
Join our dedicated team as a Phlebotomist, where you'll be responsible for handling approximately 90 patients a day alongside three other phlebotomists. Your role will primarily involve blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. You'll collect and store specimens according to established procedures and explain the venipuncture process in a clear and courteous manner.
Responsibilities
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process clearly and courteously.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Understand and follow physicians' orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
- Ensure accuracy by checking test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.
- Package specimens for transport.
- Store specimen samples according to required temperatures and protocols.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
- Phlebotomy expertise with high volume experience.
- Proficiency in blood draw and specimen collection.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to work with pediatrics and geriatrics.
- Experience with straight needles.
- 2 years of phlebotomy experience.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bilingual capabilities preferred for North Bergen and Bayonne.
Work Environment
Work hours are from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with alternate Saturdays from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.40 - $20.65/hr.
