Job Title: Principal Hardware Designer - Optical Transceivers

Job Description

Our design engineering group provides end-to-end product development solutions, including test and measurement modules, 4&5G macro frequency variants, optical transceivers, and optical sub-assemblies. The team handles projects from concept to volume manufacturing. We are seeking a Principal Hardware Designer for optical transceivers. This position involves collaborating with a cross-functional team to lead hardware design efforts from concept to pre-production.

Responsibilities

• Lead hardware design of optical transceivers from concept to pre-production.
• Contribute to all phases of the product development cycle.
• Understand and document electrical and optical requirements.
• Interface with various engineering teams.
• Review high-speed interface simulations.
• Lead design reviews.
• Troubleshoot and improve yield.
• Resolve DFM issues and ensure compliance.

Essential Skills

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering. M.S or Ph.D. is considered an asset.
• Approximately 12 years of work experience in hardware design of optical transceivers.
• Experience working on at least 200-400 gig transceivers, preferably 800 gig.
• Knowledge of transceiver design from conception to production.
• Experience reviewing RF designs.
• Proficient in PCB design.
• Understanding of system design.
• Telecom experience.
• Excellent communication skills for customer engagement.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in RF design using modeling tools such as CST or HFSS.
• Experience with the full previous optical transceiver design cycle.
• Familiarity with high-speed (RF) and optoelectronic devices: drivers, modulators, lasers, detectors, TIA, CDR/DSP, and equalization.
• Work experience with optical components.
• Experience with optical transceiver test methodologies.
• Knowledge of various optical transceivers in CWDM and DWDM networks.
• Familiarity with industry standards including IEEE Ethernet standards, OIF standards, and various MSAs.
• Coherent design experience is a plus.

Work Environment

For the right candidate, remote work can be considered if they are exceptionally qualified. Due to the nice skillset, we are considering candidates based anywhere in Canada. The work environment involves working on cutting-edge optical interconnects and packaging solutions for companies across aerospace, medical, telecom, and automotive industries. The position offers the opportunity to work with leading-edge customers and technology within a smaller team setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $95.00/hr.
