Oncology Clinical Research Navigator

This role supports oncology clinical trials by identifying eligible patients, coordinating their enrollment, and serving as a central liaison between patients, physicians, and study sponsors. The Clinical Research Navigator reviews medical records, applies study inclusion and exclusion criteria, and secures study slots quickly and accurately. This position offers a fast-paced environment with significant exposure to physicians, medical leadership, and sponsors, making it ideal for someone who enjoys working with patients and wants to transition away from a traditional clinic setting.

• Meet with patients to assess their eligibility for oncology clinical research studies.
• Review medical records and electronic medical records (EMR) to evaluate inclusion and exclusion criteria for multiple clinical trials.
• Quickly and accurately interpret study protocols and apply inclusion and exclusion criteria to patient records.
• Coordinate closely with physicians and other clinical staff to identify and pre-screen patients for up to 16–25 active studies.
• Notify and collaborate with the Navigator team to initiate contact with eligible patients through EPIC or direct outreach.
• Request and secure study slots from sponsors for eligible patients, ensuring information is accurate and complete.
• Serve as a liaison between patients, physicians, and sponsors, maintaining clear and professional communication with all parties.
• Communicate through EPIC, phone calls, emails, and other approved channels to manage study-related coordination.
• Respond promptly to multiple requests throughout the day from physicians and other stakeholders while managing ongoing cases.
• Monitor timelines and deadlines for study visits and ensure all parties are prepared and informed.
• Maintain organized documentation of pre-screening activities, study slot requests, and communication with sponsors and clinical teams.
• Support coordination of Phase 1 studies, ensuring adherence to protocol requirements and patient safety considerations.
• Adapt to a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks to secure study spots efficiently for eligible patients.

• Clinical research experience with a strong understanding of inclusion and exclusion criteria for clinical trials.
• Oncology experience, including the ability to interpret oncology diagnoses and medical records accurately.
• Proficiency in reviewing medical records and performing detailed chart reviews for patient pre-screening.
• Experience pre-screening patients for clinical trials using EMR systems such as EPIC.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to act as a liaison between physicians, patients, and sponsors.
• Ability to respond to all parties in a timely manner to meet study deadlines and prepare for study visits.
• Capacity to manage multiple concurrent requests and tasks in a fast-paced clinical research environment.
• Comfort using various communication methods, including EMR messaging, phone calls, and email.

• Experience working on Phase 1 oncology studies.
• Prior experience in a role that bridges clinical care and research, such as clinical research coordinator or navigator.
• Familiarity with sponsor interactions and processes for requesting and managing study slots.
• Interest in working closely with physicians, medical directors, and sponsors to advance oncology research.
• Motivation to remain patient-focused while transitioning away from a traditional clinic-based role.

This position is primarily onsite at a cancer center location, where the Clinical Research Navigator works closely with physicians, medical leadership, and research staff in a fast-paced environment. The role involves extensive use of electronic medical records, including EPIC, as well as frequent communication via phone and email. The position offers some flexibility to work from home on Fridays and occasionally on other days, depending on operational needs. The environment provides significant exposure to oncology clinical trials and sponsor interactions, offering strong learning opportunities and professional growth for individuals interested in clinical research.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
