The Model Maker in the Prototype Design Shop is responsible for building high-quality prototype components based on technical drawings or CAD data. This position requires proficiency in a wide variety of shop equipment and tools to produce accurate, functional prototypes. Additionally, the Model Maker will work across multiple disciplines, including CNC machining, preparing parts for paint, additive manufacturing, laser cutting, and manual operations for materials like plastic, foam, and acrylic.
Responsibilities- Build high-quality prototype components based on technical drawings or CAD data.
- Utilize a wide variety of shop equipment and tools to produce accurate, functional prototypes.
- Work across multiple disciplines, including CNC machining, preparing parts for paint, additive manufacturing, laser cutting, and manual operations for materials like plastic, foam, and acrylic.
- 2 years of experience in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary prototype or model shop environment.
- Proficiency in machining, fabrication, and prototyping.
- Advanced skills in 3D modeling and CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, and Rhino.
- Familiarity with industrial design principles and practices.
- Proficiency in Creo CAM, SolidWorks, and SurfCam preferred.
- Ability to perform basic electrical work or incorporate simple electronics into prototypes.
- Some college education required.
Work is performed in a prototype design shop with exposure to machinery, tools, and various materials. The environment may be noisy, dusty, and include exposure to chemicals and fumes, requiring proper safety equipment. Work may involve some exposure to fluctuating temperatures depending on the nature of the materials being worked with. Occasional interaction with external vendors and suppliers, including phone and email communication, is expected. Occasional travel may be required for training, vendor visits, or project-related activities. Flexibility in work hours may be required to meet project deadlines or to accommodate international shipping schedules.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00/hr.
