Job Title: Calibration Technician

Job Description

The Calibration Technician will work onsite in Holly Springs, NC, supporting a greenfield life sciences manufacturing expansion by performing precise calibrations, preventive maintenance, and loop checks on a wide range of process, utility, manufacturing, and laboratory equipment. This role directly supports the quality and reliability of pharmaceutical manufacturing operations through accurate GxP documentation, adherence to safety standards, and close collaboration with project teams. The position offers the opportunity to work on complex calibration challenges, gain broad exposure across multiple systems and instruments, and grow into more experienced calibration responsibilities over time.

Responsibilities

  • Perform calibrations, qualifications, and preventive maintenance (PMs) on process, utility, manufacturing, and laboratory instruments and equipment, ensuring all work is completed accurately, on time, and in compliance with GxP requirements.
  • Conduct loop checks and calibrations for parameters such as temperature, pressure, humidity, and pH, including work on 4–20 mA transmitters and other instrumentation used in manufacturing environments.
  • With guidance, perform flow, conductivity, pH, mass, and dimensional calibrations, progressively expanding the range and complexity of instruments supported.
  • Complete detailed and accurate calibration reports, referencing appropriate standards, established limits, and parameters, and maintain thorough documentation in accordance with company and client procedures.
  • Handle, operate, and maintain company and client test and standards equipment, ensuring proper care, calibration, and readiness for use.
  • Learn to troubleshoot and perform basic repairs on instruments and equipment, while focusing the majority of effort on scheduled calibration and maintenance activities.
  • Review and interpret P&IDs, instrument documentation, and technical data to plan and execute calibration tasks effectively.
  • Apply lockout/tagout and other safety procedures when working on equipment to ensure a safe work environment for self and others.
  • Proactively assess project and site safety conditions, identify potential hazards, and ensure compliance with all client site safety requirements and practices.
  • Evaluate client environments, needs, and technical requirements to help develop and implement effective calibration and maintenance solutions.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with client personnel and internal team members through clear communication, reliability, and professional conduct.
  • Work with minimal supervision within a defined scope of work, making independent decisions when appropriate and seeking clarification or direction when needed.
  • Maintain a high level of attention to detail, meeting or exceeding quality standards and performance metrics once training is complete.
  • Support day-shift Monday–Friday operations, with flexibility to adapt as project phases and site needs evolve.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance calibration processes, documentation, and safety practices.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of calibration experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Hands-on experience with calibration of manufacturing equipment and process instrumentation.
  • Practical experience performing loop checks, including work with 4–20 mA transmitters and loop calibrations.
  • Experience performing temperature, pressure, humidity, and pH calibrations on a variety of equipment.
  • Experience working with process equipment, utilities, manufacturing systems, and some laboratory instruments.
  • High attention to detail, with the ability to produce very detailed reports and accurately reference standards, limits, and parameters.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, make independent decisions within a defined scope, and demonstrate strong self-drive.
  • Basic understanding and application of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and life sciences industry regulations.
  • Basic understanding and application of instrument, equipment, and loop calibrations across manufacturing, utilities, and laboratory environments.
  • Strong communication skills for effective interaction with clients and coworkers.
  • Solid problem-solving skills in an instrumentation and manufacturing context.
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical panels and associated safety practices.
  • Ability to read and apply information from P&IDs and technical documentation.
  • Commitment to safety practices, including lockout/tagout and adherence to site safety requirements.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Level 2, Level 3, and experienced Calibration Technicians are needed, with a total experience range of approximately 2–10 years.
  • Pharmaceutical or quality system experience is preferred, including exposure to GxP and regulated environments.
  • Military training or experience in a technical field is highly valued and translates well to this role.
  • Backgrounds in automotive, military, or HVAC technical roles are relevant when combined with calibration experience.
  • A two-year degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, Electronics, or a related technical field, or equivalent military training, plus two years of applicable metrology, instrumentation, or calibration experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Expanded understanding of traceability, substitution of standards, and test accuracy and uncertainty ratios is preferred.
  • Expanded understanding of calibration concepts and requirements, including accuracy testing requirements, is beneficial.
  • Quality system or pharmaceutical industry experience is preferred but not required.
  • 1–2 years of pharmaceutical experience is beneficial and may strengthen candidacy.
  • Experience with signal generators and related calibration tools is advantageous.
  • Experience with temperature and pressure calculations and loops checks will stand out.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is a strong plus; OSHA 10 training can be provided if not already held.
