Job Title: Medical Assistant – OB/GYN Medical Office

Job Description

This role provides hands-on clinical and administrative support in a busy OB/GYN and women’s health medical office. You will work closely with physicians and other clinicians to room patients, take vital signs, support examinations, and manage patient communications, ensuring every patient receives timely, accurate, and compassionate care. This position is ideal for a Medical Assistant with prior medical office experience who is committed to professional growth and willing to obtain CMA or RMA certification within six months.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians with all aspects of patient interactions, ensuring a professional, respectful, and compassionate experience for every patient.
  • Room patients efficiently by verifying identity, updating medical histories, preparing exam rooms, and ensuring patients are ready for their visit.
  • Measure and document vital signs accurately, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight, and other relevant metrics.
  • Support physicians and clinicians during examinations and procedures as needed, following clinical protocols and maintaining patient comfort.
  • Call patients to explain test and laboratory results clearly and accurately, using appropriate medical guidance and office protocols.
  • Contact pharmacies on behalf of patients regarding medication questions, prescription refills, and clarifications, ensuring timely and accurate communication.
  • Schedule patient appointments and manage changes or cancellations to support efficient patient flow and provider schedules.
  • Handle incoming calls in a professional manner, providing information, routing calls appropriately, and assisting with patient inquiries.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date information in the Electronic Medical Records system to support coordinated and high-quality care.
  • Follow all clinical and office procedures to ensure patient safety, confidentiality, and compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other clinicians to deliver coordinated women’s health care.
  • Contribute to the smooth operation of a busy, high-volume OB/GYN practice by managing time effectively and prioritizing tasks.
  • Uphold a professional appearance and demeanor in all patient-facing interactions, reflecting the standards of the practice.

Essential Skills

  • Medical office experience, including prior work in a clinical or physician practice setting.
  • Background as a Medical Assistant with 1–3 years of strong, relevant experience.
  • Willingness and ability to obtain CMA or RMA certification within six months of hire.
  • Experience working in a medical office environment, including patient-facing responsibilities.
  • Ability to schedule appointments and manage patient flow in a busy practice.
  • Strong telephone skills, including handling call center–style patient communications.
  • Proficiency in using Electronic Medical Records to document and retrieve patient information.
  • Clear, professional communication skills for explaining test and lab results to patients.
  • Ability to coordinate with pharmacies regarding medications, refills, and patient questions.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Reliability and punctuality to consistently start work by 8:00 AM and complete a 40-hour workweek.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in women’s health or OB/GYN settings is a strong plus.
  • Comfort working in a high-volume, fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Ability to work one late evening per week on a rotating basis, typically until 6:00 PM and occasionally as late as 7:30 PM.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documenting patient information and vital signs.
  • Commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care.
  • Interest in professional growth and potential advancement within a large women’s health organization.

Work Environment

This position is based in a busy OB/GYN and women’s health office in West Hartford, serving a high volume of patients in a fast-paced clinical setting. The practice is part of a large, well-established women’s health organization with 80 locations across Connecticut and central Massachusetts and ongoing expansion into additional states. You will work alongside a large team of board-certified or board-eligible physicians and a diverse group of clinicians, including nurse practitioners, physician assistants, certified nurse midwives, and advanced practice registered nurses. The office uses modern technologies, including Electronic Medical Records, to support accurate documentation and coordinated care. The standard schedule is 40 hours per week, with a strict 8:00 AM start time and one late evening per week on a rotating basis, typically until 6:00 PM and occasionally up to 7:30 PM. The dress code requires scrubs, closed-toe shoes, and a professional, patient-facing appearance, including no visible piercings, reflecting a strong emphasis on professionalism and presentation in the clinical environment

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of West Hartford, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.
