Job Description:
This role focuses on the design and development of custom mechanical equipment used in highly regulated and controlled environments. The Mechanical Engineer will contribute across the full project lifecycle, including concept development, 3D modeling, engineering analysis, and collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders. The position emphasizes creating practical, fabrication-ready designs and supporting both new product development and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop custom mechanical equipment and systems for specialized industrial applications
- Translate conceptual designs into detailed 3D models and fabrication-ready drawings
- Perform engineering calculations to validate structural integrity, performance, and safety
- Support or interpret engineering analyses (e.g., FEA, CFD) to optimize design performance
- Apply GD&T principles to ensure accurate, manufacturable, and well-documented designs
- Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards and engineering best practices (e.g., ANSI, ASME, ASTM)
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, to ensure designs are practical and aligned with production capabilities
- Interface with stakeholders to clarify requirements, support design reviews, and provide technical input
- Contribute to design improvements and continuous improvement initiatives-
- Support fabrication and assembly processes by troubleshooting design-related issues
- Assist in the design of systems involving structural components, sheet metal, and environmental or containment considerations as needed
- Utilize CAD tools to develop and maintain models, assemblies, and documentation
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field
- 6 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably involving custom or engineered equipment
- Strong experience with GD&T and engineering drawing standards
- Experience with sheet metal design and fabrication processes
- Familiarity with engineering analysis tools (e.g., FEA, CFD)
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar) and 2D drafting tools
- Working knowledge of applicable engineering codes and standards
- Ability to develop detailed fabrication drawings from conceptual designs
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience designing equipment for regulated or high-performance environments (e.g., pharmaceutical, chemical, energy, or industrial sectors)
- Familiarity with systems involving containment, environmental control, or specialized mechanical assemblies
- Strong understanding of design for manufacturability (DFM) principles
- Experience working in project-based, custom engineering environments

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mauston, WI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.86 - $60.10/hr.
