Job Title: Mechanical Engineer
Job Description

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for developing design specifications, creating and maturing design concepts, providing procurement support, and generating drawings and design documentation. This role requires interfacing with Business Project Managers, Technical Project Engineers, sourcing teams, equipment manufacturers, and engineering teams from both internal and partner organizations. The position demands accountability for cost, schedule, quality, and technical accuracy of assigned tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design specifications, create and mature design concepts, provide procurement support, and generate drawings and design documentation.
  • Operate in a matrixed engineering team to ensure high-quality deliverables in accordance with customer requirements, business procedures, and regulatory agency guidelines.
  • Execute analysis, design, test, or integration required to define and support assignments related to reactor internal components that meet business standards and program/product requirements.
  • Perform fundamental engineering hand calculations and modeling.
  • Develop designs for mechanical components and equipment.
  • Assess causality and risk.
  • Prepare and present technical data to internal customers.
  • Lead and facilitate discussions and information exchange to promote open dialogue, working effectively in a matrixed team environment.
  • Ensure that product designs meet all intended application and design requirements by collaborating with experts in other functional teams.
  • Provide technical support through sourcing for fabricator assessment and interfaces.
  • Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that provides a competitive advantage to the business.
  • Participate in and lead teams assigned to address specific organizational initiatives.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • 7-10 years of experience in design activities within fabrication or manufacturing industries (materials, welding, fasteners, fabrication, etc.).
  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stack-ups.
  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor or similar CAD tools.
  • Strong valve design experience, preferably in the nuclear industry.
  • Knowledge of welding, fabrication, and manufacturing processes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Proficiency with ANSYS FEA analysis.
  • Experience in the BWR or PWR industry.
  • Knowledge of AWS codes and similar standards.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience analyzing and solving moderately complex design problems.
Work Environment

The position is fully remote with a focus on heavy research and development. The team is engaged in next-generation R&D concepts that advance nuclear technology, addressing sustainability and renewable energy challenges. The project has a minimum duration of 18 months, with the possibility of transitioning to a permanent position, although this is not guaranteed.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $90.00/hr.
