The Mechanical Designer serves as a technical expert, supports the engineering discipline, and provides leadership and guidance to designers and drafters to keep projects on schedule and aligned with industry and internal standards.

Responsibilities

  • Produce accurate 2D and 3D construction drawings, including plans, sections, elevations, details, bills of material, and isometrics from models and sketches under the direction of an engineer.
  • Assist with front-end engineering design (FEED) studies and support engineering teams with technical input.
  • Check the work of and assist in training less experienced drafting and design personnel to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Ensure all drawings comply with internal specifications and client standards, as well as applicable industry codes and regulations.
  • Exercise resourcefulness and ingenuity to resolve complex technical and design issues in oil and gas mechanical projects.
  • Coordinate with other managers, engineers, and designers to complete project assignments efficiently and on schedule.
  • Review and approve timecards for team members as required.
  • Participate in the interview process and assist in evaluating candidates for new design and drafting hires.

Essential Skills

  • Associate’s degree or certificate in CAD, Drafting, or Design from an accredited vocational school, college, or university.
  • 10 years of experience using AutoCAD and CADWorx software for oil and gas mechanical design.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and regulations for the oil and gas industry.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, schematics, and specifications.
  • Demonstrated experience with mechanical design for natural gas and hydrocarbon projects.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and CADWorx for creating detailed mechanical models and drawings.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Word.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with engineers, designers, and project stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and also perform independently with minimal supervision.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Leica CloudWorx is preferred.
  • Experience in pipeline engineering and compressor station projects is highly beneficial.
  • Experience in developing and reviewing P&IDs and mechanical schematics for oil and gas facilities.
  • Ability to mentor and train junior designers and drafters in CAD and mechanical design best practices.
  • Experience working in a growing organization with a collaborative, close-knit culture.

Work Environment

You will work within an engineering team of approximately 15 people in a collaborative, project-focused environment. The team uses AutoCAD, CADWorx, Leica CloudWorx (preferred), and Microsoft tools such as Excel, Teams, and Word to deliver high-quality mechanical designs for oil and gas and industrial facilities. The culture emphasizes a close, family-type atmosphere with strong teamwork, open communication, and support for professional growth.
