We are seeking a skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the development and launch of heavy-duty truck accessories and systems. This role focuses on the mechanical design, integration, and validation of complex accessory products — including hydraulic systems, structural components, and electrical integration — for use in commercial and vocational truck platforms. You will play a key role in delivering innovative, durable, and high-performance products tailored to customer applications and industry demands.
Responsibilities- Lead the mechanical design and integration of heavy truck accessory products such as hydraulic liftgates, tool storage systems, service bodies, utility cranes, winches, PTO-driven systems, and other chassis-mounted equipment.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, controls, hydraulics, and manufacturing teams to develop fully integrated solutions.
- Own product development from concept through production launch, including prototyping, CAD design, FEA, DFM, and validation testing.
- Design robust mechanical structures and assemblies using steel, aluminum, and composite materials for heavy-duty environments.
- Develop and optimize hydraulic systems, including pump/motor selection, circuit design, and performance tuning.
- Ensure seamless electrical integration of powered accessories with truck OEM or aftermarket power and control systems.
- Create and maintain detailed engineering documentation: drawings, BOMs, engineering change orders, and test reports.
- Support validation testing, including environmental, fatigue, load, and field testing.
- Engage with suppliers and customers to define requirements, resolve technical challenges, and ensure product compatibility.
- Support continuous improvement in product performance, cost, and manufacturability.
- Experience and success designing heavy duty industrial products.
- Knowledge of design principles particularly related to large multicomponent assemblies (5-15 years of experience).
- Engineering knowledge to evaluate test results to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
- Experience evaluating and solving design related issues that arise within manufacturing and/or production assembly.
- Excellent communication skills and proven experience interacting with other groups to finalize product designs.
- Disciplined, motivational personality who is self-motivated, results oriented, and capable of sustained and continuous effort.
- Hands-on approach and mechanical aptitude.
- Pride and commitment to accuracy, detail, and well thought out designs.
- Thorough and consistent documentation habits paired with excellent organizational and management skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced product design team.
- Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Proficient in CAD, with a strong emphasis on Creo.
- Background in Mechanical Engineering and New Product Development.
- Experience designing heavy-duty truck mounting assemblies is a strong plus.
- Experience doing 3D designs in Creo is a strong plus.
This role is based in a brand-new facility with a fast work pace and a 'work hard, play hard' mentality. You will be part of an engineering team consisting of 5-8 engineers within a company of 800 total employees.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mentor, OH.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $48.08 - $57.69/hr.
