Manufacturing Scientist – Diagnostic Calibration Materials

Job Description

This role focuses on producing high-quality calibration materials used in diagnostic medical equipment for hospitals and clinics. You will work in a regulated manufacturing laboratory, preparing reagents and buffers, running analytical instruments, and ensuring all products meet strict quality and regulatory standards. The position offers a high level of independence, opportunities to apply scientific and analytical skills, and the chance to contribute directly to accurate biomedical testing worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manufacture calibration materials, buffers, and reagents used in diagnostic medical instruments by following established procedures and specifications.
  • Apply analytical and scientific methods in daily laboratory tasks, including accurate pipetting and handling of solutions.
  • Operate, set up, calibrate, and run DXI800 and DXI19000 instruments to support production and testing activities.
  • Perform functional and analytical testing on solutions, including measurements of pH, conductivity, and density, to ensure adherence to production and process specifications.
  • Set up, calibrate, test, and troubleshoot reagent components and instruments to maintain reliable and consistent performance.
  • Follow and execute Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all lab and production processes, documenting work accurately and completely.
  • Conduct data analysis and computer-based review of test results to verify that materials meet defined specifications and quality standards.
  • Support non-conformance investigations and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs) related to materials, processes, or equipment.
  • Assist with scheduling, inventory management, and coordination of materials needed for manufacturing and testing activities.
  • Maintain compliance with FDA Quality System Regulations (QSR), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and applicable regulatory requirements throughout all work.
  • Contribute to a safe, organized, and efficient lab environment by following safety guidelines, maintaining equipment, and ensuring proper documentation.
  • Work independently to identify and resolve issues, seek out answers when needed, and proactively support continuous improvement in laboratory processes.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a science-related field.
  • At least 12 months of experience in a manufacturing laboratory or closely related lab environment.

Work Environment

This position is based in a regulated manufacturing and production environment with a strong focus on quality and compliance. The role follows a first-shift schedule, typically 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with some flexibility to start or end the day earlier or later as desired. You will spend approximately 70% of your time performing hands-on laboratory work—making buffers, preparing materials, pipetting, running functional and analytical tests, and following SOPs in a large, chemistry-focused main lab. The remaining 30% of your time will involve computer-based work such as handling non-conformances and CAPAs, scheduling, inventory management, and data analysis to ensure specifications are met. The work is highly independent, with direct involvement in the production of calibrators that support complex biomedical testing. The campus setting includes access to walking trails near a lake and is conveniently located near local shops and restaurants, offering a pleasant and accessible work environment. The company develops, manufactures, and markets products that simplify, automate, and innovate complex biomedical testing, providing a mission-driven culture focused on improving diagnostic accuracy and patient care.
