Lead Mechanical Engineer

The Lead Mechanical Engineer will design custom equipment using SolidWorks software and oversee all assigned equipment design and build projects through to completion, providing engineering support to the machine design staff. The role requires proactive communication and customer interaction to ensure high-value solutions are provided to meet application requirements.

Responsibilities

• Design custom and standard equipment based on thorough understanding of customers' specifications and application needs, using accepted engineering practices and industry standards.
• Design mechanical systems and mechanisms, such as pallet dispensers, slip sheet dispensers, pick and place systems, and more.
• Use hand calculations and FEA to evaluate designs.
• Design and produce schematics for hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Collaborate with engineering staff to provide necessary engineering information and complete design documentation for manufacturing.
• Perform troubleshooting and problem-solving tasks on equipment in design, fabrication, assembly, and field installations.
• Work with management to achieve department goals related to product quality, project schedules, and corporate financial objectives.
• Maintain a positive and enjoyable work environment with team members.

• Experience designing custom machines within SolidWorks, preferably 5 years.
• Proficiency in FEA for stress and load analysis using SolidWorks Simulation.
• ERP experience to create and modify bill of materials.
• Strong communication skills, verified through references.
• Prior lead experience in leading projects and engineers.
• Engineering degree in a relevant field.

• Mechanical Engineering Degree.
• Experience in material handling and bulk handling.

The work environment includes a team of approximately 40 employees, with 7 mechanical engineers and 2 electrical engineers. The Lead Mechanical Engineer will not have direct reports but will assign workload to designers/detailers and oversee their work. Initial projects include supporting a Lift & Dump Drum Discharging System for indoor use. The typical work week is 45 hours, and the role offers 10 days PTO, 6 standard holidays, and access to Udemy after 6 months.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Allegan, MI.

The pay range for this position is $41.00 - $52.89/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Allegan,MI.
