Job Description

This Lab Technician will be responsible for performing solid phase and liquid phase extractions/digestions in accordance with EPA drinking water test methods and standard operating procedures. The role involves running multiple tests of varying lengths, working closely with other Lab Technicians, and reporting to an Analyst who plans the daily sample schedule.

Responsibilities

• Perform required extractions/digestions within holding times according to specified test methods.
• Calibrate equipment before beginning tests and document all calibration work.
• Accurately transcribe identifying information, including sample ID numbers, into records or computer databases.
• Ensure all calculations are correct and properly documented as per company SOPs and regulatory agencies.
• Complete confirmatory tests or procedures within their holding time and document the work.
• Identify, document, and initiate corrective actions for any quality control issues.
• Report any sample that may produce suspect results to the Quality System Manager.
• Maintain equipment in working condition, documenting all maintenance and repairs.
• Order or initiate the ordering of reagents and supplies needed for procedures.
• Notify the Laboratory Director or Project Manager of any conditions affecting productivity schedules.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biology
• Experience with laboratory, chemistry, microbiology, wet chemistry, titration, analytical chemistry, GC, HPLC
• Patient, collaborative, and teamwork-oriented personality

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 6 months of recent experience in an environmental or wet chemistry lab
• Microbiology experience for assisting in the micro lab

Work Environment

This position is located in an environmental lab within an older, smaller building in Ypsilanti. The lab operates Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with no weekend shifts. However, occasional overtime may be required. The lab consists of a small, cohesive team of 22 employees, offering exposure to various test methods essential for the analysis of drinking water. The role requires standing for extended periods under a fume hood and involves using syringes, pipettes, and other basic chemistry tools.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ypsilanti, MI.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Ypsilanti,MI.
