Job Description
The Job Captain will play a key role in delivering high-quality commercial, retail, corporate interiors, and hospitality projects while growing along a clear Project Manager career track. This position focuses on producing detailed construction documents, coordinating with consultants, and guiding junior architects through all project phases. The role offers broad exposure to all aspects of each project in a collaborative studio environment that emphasizes mentorship, professional development, and long-term career growth.
Responsibilities
- Produce accurate, well-coordinated construction documents for commercial, retail, corporate interiors, and hospitality projects.
- Lead and mentor junior architects, providing guidance on design, documentation, and project processes.
- Coordinate effectively with consultants, including engineers and other external partners, to ensure cohesive and integrated project delivery.
- Attend client meetings to understand project requirements, present design solutions, and respond to feedback.
- Participate in and support all project phases, including schematic design, design development, construction documents, and construction administration.
- Manage day-to-day project tasks and workflows with a view toward developing into a full Project Manager role.
- Support tenant fit-out projects, including lounges, restaurants, and other interior environments, ensuring alignment with brand and functional requirements.
- Assist in expanding the firm’s portfolio by contributing to new project types and markets as opportunities arise.
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture or a related field.
- 6–8 years of professional architectural experience.
- Licensed Architect qualification.
- Proven experience delivering commercial, corporate interiors, retail, and hospitality projects.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for drafting and documentation.
- Proficiency in Revit for modeling and coordination.
- Strong coordination skills with consultants and project stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to produce complete, detailed, and code-compliant construction documents.
- Experience leading junior architects and providing project guidance.
- Experience attending and contributing to client meetings.
- Experience coordinating with consultants throughout all project phases.
- Hands-on experience with schematic design, design development, construction documents, construction administration, and project management tasks.
- Experience with tenant fit-out projects, including lounges, restaurants, and similar interior environments.
- Interest in a defined career path toward Project Manager responsibilities.
- Ability to work on multiple project types, including retail, commercial, hospitality, and corporate interiors.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with clients, consultants, and internal teams.

This role is based in an office in New York, NY, within a small, collaborative architectural studio. New hires are expected to work in the office every day for the first six months to build strong relationships, receive close mentorship, and fully integrate into the team. After this period, a 4 days in-office / 1 day work-from-home schedule is available, with potential for additional flexibility depending on individual circumstances and project needs. The firm uses AutoCAD and Revit as core production tools and offers exposure to a wide range of project types, including commercial, retail, corporate interiors, hospitality, and tenant fit-outs. Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New York, NY.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $41.00 - $55.00/hr.
