Summary
This role serves as the lead field service technician for the installation, integration, and verification of defense communication systems, with a strong focus on shipboard and military environments. You will plan and lead installation efforts, develop and execute System Operation Verification Tests (SOVTs), ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements, and provide programmatic and technical support across multiple projects. The position combines hands-on technical work, project leadership, and close coordination with project and program management teams.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the Installation Lead for communication systems, overseeing end-to-end installation activities in shipboard and other military environments.
- Create comprehensive installation documentation and supporting deliverables, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance with contract requirements.
- Develop, document, and oversee the execution of System Operation Verification Tests (SOVTs) to validate proper system performance and integration.
- Support oversight of safety requirements and ensure adherence to OSHA and other applicable governing regulations during all installation and service activities.
- Assist the Project Manager and Program Manager in resolving programmatic and execution issues, providing clear technical and operational input.
- Support the management and coordination of platform integration and upgrade efforts, including scheduling, resource coordination, and technical alignment.
- Produce detailed service and installation reports in accordance with all contract deadlines, documenting work performed, test results, and system status.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to communication systems, including hardware, software, and integration problems.
- Effectively manage day-to-day elements of Department of Defense (DoD) projects, ensuring tasks progress on schedule and meet quality standards.
- Apply working knowledge of standard military documents, including populating required data and ensuring documentation accuracy.
- Coordinate and direct onsite vendors and subcontractors to ensure work aligns with project plans, technical requirements, and safety standards.
- Mentor and guide junior team members, sharing technical expertise and best practices in installation, testing, and project execution.
- Read and interpret schematics, technical drawings, and system documentation to support installation, troubleshooting, and verification activities.
- Work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team to meet project objectives and customer expectations.
- Lift equipment and materials up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods during installation and service work.
Essential Skills
- Active Secret Clearance.
- Valid passport with ability to travel as required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat for reviewing, editing, and managing technical and project documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience providing programmatic, financial, and technical support for the research, development, test, and evaluation of communication systems.
- Experience with military standards and procedures related to communication systems and shipboard or military environments.
- Proven ability to effectively manage day-to-day elements of a DoD project.
- Demonstrated self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team in dynamic project environments.
- Experience mentoring and supporting the development of junior team members.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods during installation and service activities.
- 3–5 years of team lead experience, ideally in a military shipboard environment.
- Working knowledge of standard military documentation, including the ability to populate required data fields accurately.
- Prior experience in Military Occupational Specialty 25H, 25S, or 25U, or USMC 0600 or 2800 fields, or related military experience in other branches.
- Master Certification in Project Management.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Experience building and linking workflows to Microsoft Project schedules.
- Experience working with, coordinating, and directing onsite vendors and subcontractors.
- Hands-on experience in field service management and troubleshooting of communication or related electronic systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in shipboard, shipyard, shipbuilding, naval shipyard, or naval systems environments.
- Experience with Army, Marine Corps, Navy, or other military communication and watercraft systems.
- Familiarity with tactical communication systems such as SINCGARS, Blue Force Tracker (BFT), DAGR, and related equipment.
- Experience supporting integration and upgrades of communication systems on watercraft and other platforms.
- Strong organizational skills for managing documentation, schedules, and multiple concurrent tasks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for producing reports, documentation, and customer-facing updates.
This is a Contract position based out of Hampton, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $32.00 - $45.00/hr.
