Job Title: Industrial Engineer
Job Description

The Industrial Engineer designs, develops, tests, and evaluates integrated systems that manage industrial production processes, including human work factors, quality control, inventory control, logistics, material flow, cost analysis, and production coordination. This role focuses on increasing productivity by optimizing people, business processes, facility layouts, and technology, with a strong emphasis on data-driven process improvement and support of AI-based continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze statistical data and product specifications to determine standards and establish quality and reliability objectives for finished products.
  • Develop manufacturing methods, labor utilization standards, and cost analysis systems to promote efficient use of staff, equipment, and facilities.
  • Recommend methods to improve utilization of personnel, materials, and utilities in a highly automated manufacturing environment.
  • Plan and establish sequences of operations to fabricate and assemble parts or products, promoting efficient workflow and throughput.
  • Apply statistical methods and perform mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes, staffing requirements, and production standards.
  • Coordinate quality control objectives and activities to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability, and minimize cost.
  • Estimate production costs and evaluate the impact of product design changes for management review, decision-making, and control.
  • Draft and design layouts of equipment, materials, and workspaces using drafting tools and computer software to achieve maximum efficiency.
  • Monitor production systems to identify bottlenecks through data analysis, focusing resources on areas that limit throughput rather than directly implementing fixes.
  • Work closely with controls and engineering teams to collect, structure, and feed throughput and performance data into AI models for system-wide analysis.
  • Support continuous improvement projects by crunching data, training AI systems, and analyzing jobs per hour (JPH), system performance, and bottlenecks using tools such as Power BI.
  • Contribute to the overall layout and optimization of the shop floor, ensuring ergonomic, efficient, and safe workstations and material flow.
  • Participate in industrial engineering activities such as process improvement, time studies, and line balancing to enhance productivity and safety.
  • Ensure that safety considerations and automotive manufacturing requirements are incorporated into process and layout designs.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • 2–4 years of experience in industrial engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Experience in industrial or manufacturing environments with a focus on process improvement and time studies.
  • Ability to analyze statistical data and product specifications to establish standards and quality objectives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and presenting findings.
  • Ability to make sketches, engineering drawings, and perform common engineering computations.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in producing technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Understanding of business and management principles, including strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership techniques, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Experience working with computer applications and engineering-related software such as MS Visual Basic, MS Project, and ABAQUS.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and reporting tools, including Power BI for monitoring jobs per hour, system performance, and bottlenecks.
  • Background in automotive manufacturing and safety practices, particularly within highly automated environments.
  • Ability to work as a team player with strong attention to detail.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in ergonomics and line balancing to improve worker safety and efficiency.
  • Exposure to logistics, material flow, and inventory control within manufacturing operations.
  • Experience supporting or collaborating on AI or advanced analytics projects in a production setting.
  • Comfort working in environments with significant automation and controls systems.
  • Ability to participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including monitoring systems and identifying opportunities for optimization.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities within core shift hours.
  • Experience in plant layout design, including equipment placement and workspace optimization.
Work Environment

The role is based in a manufacturing facility that is undergoing remodeling to support production of large automotive vehicles, including mid-size trucks and similar products. The plant is currently being constructed and prepared for full production, and the position involves plant floor work in a highly automated environment with extensive machinery and controls systems. The Industrial Engineer typically works on first shift with core hours and spends approximately 95% of the time on that shift, with rare opportunities to work on second or third shift as needed. There is no expected travel and overtime is not anticipated. The work involves close collaboration with engineering, controls, and operations teams, using tools such as drafting software, MS Visual Basic, MS Project, ABAQUS, and Power BI. The environment emphasizes safety, productivity, and continuous improvement, with ongoing projects related to AI-driven analysis and optimization of throughput and system performance. Appropriate industrial attire and personal protective equipment are required when working on the plant floor.
