Industrial Design Model Maker

We are seeking a highly skilled and creative Industrial Design (ID) Model Maker to join our Rapid Prototyping Technologies team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in Industrial Design model making, a passion for hands-on craftsmanship, and the ability to translate digital concepts into tangible prototypes. A portfolio showcasing physical models and process documentation is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

• Interpret CAD files, drawings, and sketches to create high-fidelity physical models.
• Select appropriate materials (plastics, metals, composites, etc.) based on design intent and functional requirements.
• Construct detailed scale models using hand tools, power tools, and digital fabrication equipment.
• Apply finishing techniques including sanding, painting, and detailing to achieve presentation-quality results.
• Collaborate closely with Industrial Designers and Engineers to ensure models meet aesthetic and functional specifications.
• Operate and maintain equipment such as 3D printers, CNC machines, lathes, and milling machines.
• Perform quality checks and make necessary adjustments or repairs to models.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
• Ensure timely delivery of models for design reviews, presentations, and client meetings.

Required Qualifications:

• Proven experience in Industrial Design model making with a strong physical portfolio.
• Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
• Skilled in hand fabrication techniques and use of shop tools.
• Strong understanding of materials, adhesives, and finishing processes.
• Excellent hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
• Experience with soft good prototyping
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and 3D models.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Degree in Industrial Design, Fine Arts, Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with CNC programming and machining processes.
• Familiarity with 3D printing technologies and their application in prototyping.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $55.00/hr.
