Job Description
The Benefits Specialist, Health & Welfare is responsible for the accurate, day-to-day administration of health and welfare benefit plans for a hospital environment. This role ensures all benefit plans comply with plan documents and contracts, reconciles vendor billing and invoices, and serves as a key liaison between employees, HRIS, vendors, and third-party benefit providers. The position supports employees with benefit questions and issues, maintains precise benefit records, and contributes to clear benefits communication across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Administer health and welfare benefit plans in strict compliance with plan documents and contracts.
- Reconcile and process weekly and monthly benefits vendor invoices accurately and on time.
- Act as the primary liaison between the organization and third-party benefits providers.
- Audit vendor enrollment and eligibility files regularly to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
- Partner with HRIS and benefits vendors to ensure accurate and timely data transmissions.
- Support and oversee the day-to-day activities of external benefits administrators.
- Assist employees with benefit questions, enrollment issues, and claims support in a clear and professional manner.
- Support benefits orientation and enrollment meetings, including educating employees on eligibility, coverage, and costs.
- Provide benefits-related information and content for employee communications, presentations, and memos.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records related to benefit plan participation and contributions.
- Assist with benefits issues escalated by the Employee Service Center and help drive timely resolution.
Essential Skills
- Experience with benefits administration in a health and welfare or healthcare-related environment.
- Knowledge of health insurance, reimbursement processes, and benefit verification.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for routine to moderately complex benefits issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with employees, vendors, and internal partners.
- Ability to process data accurately and efficiently with a high level of attention to detail.
- Strong technical aptitude, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in human resources, health care, insurance, or related fields.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with HRIS systems and coordinating data transmissions with benefits vendors.
- Experience reconciling vendor billing and processing weekly and monthly benefit invoices.
- Experience supporting external benefits administrators and third-party providers.
- Experience preparing or supporting benefits-related presentations, memos, and employee communications.

The position involves regular collaboration with HR, the Employee Service Center, external benefits administrators, and third-party vendors, typically during standard business hours. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Boston, MA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr.
