Job Title: Lead Firmware Test Engineer

This is a very hybrid position. The Test Engineer must be able to come onsite within a days notice to the Milwaukee area but the position can be worked mostly remote.

We are seeking a dedicated Firmware Test Engineer to join our dynamic product development team specializing in embedded electronics. In this role, you will focus on developing and expanding Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing capabilities, working closely with firmware engineers and product development teams to enhance product quality and test coverage. This position offers significant flexibility for remote work, with occasional on-site presence required in the Milwaukee area on short notice.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain automated test solutions for embedded electronic products.
• Build and expand Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing environments.
• Develop Python-based automated test frameworks and scripts.
• Collaborate with firmware engineers throughout product development and validation efforts.
• Set up, wire, configure, and troubleshoot embedded hardware systems and test equipment.
• Investigate failures, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions.
• Validate firmware functionality through automated and manual testing.
• Contribute to test strategy, test architecture, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills

• 5 years of experience in embedded systems testing, firmware testing, or automated test development.
• Strong Python programming skills for test automation.
• Experience testing embedded electronics or firmware-controlled products.
• Hands-on troubleshooting skills with electronic hardware.
• Ability to read schematics, connect test equipment, and debug system-level issues.
• Experience working closely with firmware or embedded software engineering teams.
• Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with electric motors, motor controls, or electromechanical systems.
• Familiarity with NI tools such as LabVIEW and TestStand.

Work Environment

The role offers a flexible work environment with the possibility of remote work, requiring on-site presence in the Milwaukee area only as needed. The position provides excellent work-life balance and is part of a supportive and privately held company.

This is a Permanent position based out of Chicago, IL.

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $70.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
