The Field Technician supports safe and reliable operations at a power plant by inspecting, operating, and monitoring coal handling systems and associated equipment. Working under supervision, this role provides basic field support for installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting, collects and prepares fuel samples, operates Limestone Drying Process Equipment, and maintains accurate documentation to ensure efficient plant performance.
Responsibilities- Inspect, operate, and monitor coal handling systems, including conveyor systems, fuel transfer lines, supply lines, and associated plant equipment to ensure safe and efficient performance.
- Provide basic field support for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of industrial equipment and systems under supervision.
- Collect and prepare fuel samples in accordance with plant procedures and quality requirements.
- Operate Limestone Drying Process Equipment and other assigned plant systems safely and consistently.
- Support routine maintenance activities on coal handling and related equipment, following established safety and operational guidelines.
- Document operational findings, maintenance activities, and equipment conditions accurately and in a timely manner.
- Follow all safety, environmental, and operational procedures while performing field and plant tasks.
- Report equipment abnormalities, potential issues, and unsafe conditions to the appropriate personnel.
- Attend training sessions to enhance technical skills and stay current with plant procedures and equipment operations.
- Assist with plant operations related to fuel systems, plant operation, and power generation as directed.
- Operate rolling stock, vehicles, forklifts, and other equipment as required for plant operations.
- Perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, climbing, lifting, pushing, and pulling in support of field and maintenance activities.
- Maintain strong attention to detail when monitoring equipment, clearing coal piles under conveyor belts, and working on platforms and step ladders.
- 0–3 years of experience in a related field, preferably in industrial, plant, or power generation environments.
- Technical diploma or equivalent education in a relevant technical discipline.
- Basic understanding of industrial equipment and system operations, including coal handling and fuel systems.
- Ability to support plant operations, power generation processes, and fuel system activities.
- Strong attention to detail when inspecting equipment, monitoring system performance, and documenting findings.
- Commitment to safe and reliable plant performance, with adherence to safety and environmental procedures.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively under supervision in a structured operational environment.
- Capability to operate rolling stock, vehicles, forklifts, and other industrial equipment as required.
- Physical ability to frequently stand, walk, sit, climb, lift, push, and pull while performing operational and maintenance tasks.
- Full mobility of hands, arms, and legs to operate vehicles, computer systems, valves, control switches, hand tools, and power tools.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds, including hand tools, maintenance equipment, equipment parts, lubricant containers, and conveyor belt rollers.
- Ability to occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force while pushing or pulling objects such as drums in standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching positions.
- Capability to occasionally climb stairs covering up to 10 floors and ladders up to 20 feet, both protected and unprotected.
- Ability to frequently climb steps into and out of heavy equipment and to access areas such as ash silos and euro silos.
- Constant ability to maintain balance, depth perception, and field of vision while working on platforms, step ladders, operating forklifts, and rolling stock.
- Depth perception sufficient to safely clear coal piles under conveyor belts when using an excavator.
- Experience working in coal handling, fuel systems, or power generation environments is an advantage.
- Familiarity with plant operation procedures and industrial safety practices.
- Willingness to participate in ongoing training to develop and enhance technical skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with plant operations and maintenance teams.
- Strong documentation and record-keeping skills for operational and maintenance activities.
This role is based onsite at a power plant in Ackerman, MS, working in an industrial environment with coal handling systems, fuel transfer lines, conveyor systems, and Limestone Drying Process Equipment. The position involves frequent movement throughout the plant site, including walking distances of up to approximately 800 yards and walking on a 15-degree ramping walkway for up to 600 feet, such as on coal conveyor systems. Work includes frequent standing while monitoring and assessing equipment, performing operations and maintenance tasks, and conducting routine inspections, as well as frequent sitting to perform office and computer work and to operate rolling stock and other equipment. The environment requires climbing stairs covering multiple floors, climbing ladders up to 20 feet, and climbing steps into and out of heavy equipment, as well as accessing elevated areas such as ash silos and euro silos. The role involves working on platforms and step ladders and operating forklifts and other rolling stock, requiring constant balance, depth perception, and a clear field of vision. The work is hands-on and physically active, with regular exposure to industrial equipment, coal handling operations, and outdoor and indoor plant conditions.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $33.00/hr.
