Description:
Essential functions • Collects and evaluates production samples, ensuring that materials and products meet acceptable quality and integrity standards • Collaborates with Ostara technical staff and third parties for methods development • Coordinates employee efforts to ensure efficient production and manufacturing lines • Facilitates communication among production departments and management • Drafts and implements policies and procedures to improve the manufacturing process and the quality of goods produced • Drafts and maintains logs, records, and other documentation of testing procedures, methodologies, and criteria • Maintains records of test results, defects identified, and other key metrics related to quality control • Analyzes quality control test results and offers feedback and interpretations of those results to production management or staff • Identifies, evaluates, procures, and manages calibration and maintenance of lab equipment for QC testing • Maintains knowledge of trends, developments, and technological advances in the fertilizer industry and in the quality control field • Drafts and maintains standard operating procedures, manuals, and documentation for the manufacturing and QC processes • Monitors and periodically reports on production quality, nonconformance, trends, and underlying causes of defects in products or processes • Ceases production when serious product defects or risks arise Supervisory Responsibilities • Hires and trains QC staff • Oversees the daily workflow and schedules of the department • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy

Required skills/abilities • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Thorough understanding of quality control standards and methodology • Experience in wet chemistry and/or granulometry laboratory techniques • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • Strong supervisory and leadership skills • Ability to safely move in and through work areas, including climbing stairs, maintaining good balance, being mentally alert, having good visual acuity and safety working at heights • Ability to safety work in and around heavy industrial environment, including moving objects, concentrated chemicals, and transport vehicles • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software Education/experience • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry required • Five years of related experience in manufacturing and production required • Fertilizer industry experience is strongly preferred
