Job Description
The Evaluation Engineer will support powertrain investigations for competitor vehicles by collecting, organizing, and analyzing technical data related to engines, hybrid systems, emissions, and on-board diagnostics. This role focuses on developing standard evaluation methods and automation scripts, performing detailed data analysis, and preparing clear summary reports for both North American and overseas research and development teams.
Responsibilities
- Support competitor vehicle powertrain investigation activities, focusing on engines, hybrid systems, emissions, and on-board diagnostics.
- Collect and organize technical information on engines, hybrid systems, emissions, and on-board diagnostics from a variety of internal and external sources.
- Develop and implement standard methods and procedures for evaluating powertrain data across multiple vehicle platforms.
- Create automation scripts to efficiently process and navigate large volumes of test and field data.
- Perform detailed data analysis to identify trends, issues, and opportunities related to powertrain performance and diagnostics.
- Prepare clear, concise summary reports and technical presentations for research and development teams in North America and overseas.
- Support competitor vehicle testing activities, including data acquisition, validation, and post-test analysis.
- Use Excel, Matlab, or Python to manipulate datasets, generate visualizations, and support engineering conclusions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to share findings and support ongoing powertrain development projects.
- Manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy, quality, and timely delivery of analysis and reports.
- Communicate technical findings and recommendations effectively through both written documentation and oral presentations.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- Strong programming ability in Matlab or Python.
- Understanding of powertrain components and system fundamentals, including engines and hybrid systems.
- High proficiency in Excel for data manipulation, analysis, and reporting.
- Strong oral and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time while maintaining attention to detail.
- Capability to work with large datasets and perform structured data analysis.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Knowledge of emissions systems and related regulations.
- Familiarity with on-board diagnostics (OBD) concepts and data.
- Experience with CAN communication and related tools.
- Experience with additional programming languages beyond Matlab or Python.
- Experience in or strong interest in general automotive systems and technologies.
Work Environment
The Evaluation Engineer will work in a collaborative engineering environment focused on powertrain systems and competitor vehicle analysis. The role involves regular use of tools such as Matlab, Python, Excel, and CAN communication interfaces to process and analyze large datasets. Work will typically be performed in an office and laboratory setting with access to test vehicles, test benches, and diagnostic equipment as required for competitor vehicle testing and data acquisition. The position requires handling multiple concurrent projects, participating in technical discussions with local and overseas research and development teams, and preparing professional reports and presentations. Standard business attire or appropriate engineering lab attire may be required depending on specific activities and test environments.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ann Arbor, MI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $33.00 - $38.00/hr.
