Job Description
The Estimator serves as a key member of the Engineering and Estimating team, supervising and delegating tasks to project estimators while acting as the primary point of contact for all estimating needs. This role ensures that all quotes align with the company’s pricing structure, delivers exceptional customer service with timely and accurate responses, and oversees the system creation of new parts as estimates convert into customer orders.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and delegate tasks to project estimators to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality output.
- Act as the primary contact for all estimating-related requests and inquiries.
- Respond promptly to emails and enter Requests for Quotation (RFQs) into the request tracking system.
- Deliver exceptional customer service by providing accurate and timely responses to customer inquiries.
- Review and approve estimators’ quotes and pricing to ensure alignment with the company’s pricing structure.
- Ensure the estimating department remains focused on priorities and that quotes are delivered within 48 hours.
- Conduct job recaps to validate the accuracy and completeness of estimates.
- Audit and improve estimating templates and calculators to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Enter new parts into the E2 Shop System and create all necessary shop documents.
- Assist with estimating workload as needed, including handling complex or high-priority quotes.
- Analyze customer drawings, blueprints, and other technical information to determine required materials and appropriate production methods.
- Obtain quotes from outside sources as necessary to support accurate cost estimates.
- Estimate materials, labor, and outside costs and calculate pricing using company quoting templates, estimating calculators, and production efficiency reports.
- Process and generate formal quotes through the E2 Shop System.
- Collaborate with other departments to resolve engineering and estimating issues as they arise.
- Assist management in providing cost reductions to key customers by analyzing current projects and quoted prices and identifying opportunities for cost savings.
- Support the quality team with inspections and blueprint interpretation when needed.
- Identify process improvement opportunities within the Engineering and Estimating department and recommend changes to enhance quality and efficiency.
- Recommend modifications to existing quality or production standards to achieve optimal quality within equipment capabilities.
- Handle customer environmental compliance requests in a timely and accurate manner.
- Maintain regular, timely attendance in compliance with the established work schedule.
- Demonstrated experience in quoting within a manufacturing environment (preferred).
- Strong computer skills, including confident operation of general office software and data entry tools.
- Proficiency in basic math to support accurate cost calculations and pricing.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Strong customer service skills, including clear communication and responsiveness.
- Ability to operate within an ERP or shop management system, such as the E2 Shop System.
- Competence in using spreadsheets and performing Excel data entry.
- Ability to manage multiple RFQs and tasks while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
- Previous experience quoting in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Knowledge of the E2 Shop Management System is a plus.
- Familiarity with calipers, micrometers, measuring tapes, and other measuring devices is a plus.
- Experience using Google Suite for communication, documentation, and data management.
- Comfort working with RFQ processes and request tracking systems.
- Ability to use precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers to support accurate estimating and quality checks.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, quality, and management teams.
The work environment is climate controlled and primarily office-based, with most of the workday spent seated at a desk. Team members typically sit for more than six hours per day and spend over six hours per day working on a computer screen. The role involves continual contact with others, including frequent communication with internal teams and customers. There may be some exposure to loud or distracting noise, especially when visiting or communicating with the manufacturing area. Time spent in the manufacturing area generally ranges from 0 to 2 hours per day. The environment supports focused computer-based work while maintaining close collaboration with production and quality functions.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Oshkosh, WI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00/hr.
