Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Health and Safety Specialist to provide daily Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) support within a chemical manufacturing plant environment. This role involves direct interaction with operations, maintenance, engineering, and other plant professionals to influence daily decisions and lead safety culture initiatives. The position requires a proactive approach to incident investigations, regulatory compliance, and safety committee leadership.
Responsibilities
- Provide primary EHS support to plant operations, partnering with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.
- Conduct field inspections, audits, and compliance checks to ensure adherence to safety and environmental regulations.
- Support environmental permitting and regulatory reporting for air, water, and waste.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action plans.
- Drive proactive safety culture initiatives, including employee engagement and training.
- Analyze EHS data to identify trends, system failures, and human factors.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and state environmental policies.
- Develop and manage initiatives to promote a proactive safety culture through safety committees and compliance auditing.
- Prepare reports for internal use and regulatory agencies.
- Investigate incidents to recommend remedial actions and prevent recurrence.
- 5 years of experience as an EHS Specialist or EHS Advisor in a manufacturing or chemical plant.
- Proficiency in environmental compliance related to air, water, and waste.
- Experience with field and incident investigation.
- Bachelor’s degree related to environment, health and safety, engineering, or related discipline.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word).
- Experience in maintaining sensitive and confidential information.
- Experience with SharePoint and Intelex is a plus.
- Ability to analyze and interpret reports and make recommendations for controls or additional testing.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Ability to coach, teach, and counsel effectively.
- Self-motivation with the ability to multitask and work independently.
This position is fully on-site at a chemical manufacturing plant in Augusta, GA, and involves supporting daily operations. The role requires physical inspections across various areas, including office, warehouse, and utility spaces. The assignment runs Monday to Friday for 36-40 hours per week over approximately 3-6 months.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $50.00 - $50.00/hr.
