Job Description

This role leads the Environmental Department and oversees environmental engineering projects from initial concept through completion. You will manage staff, plan workloads, coordinate with other departments, and ensure all projects meet scope, budget, schedule, quality, and regulatory requirements. The position combines technical leadership, project management, and business development, including directing environmental assessments, developing environmental management plans, and supporting proposals and client relationships.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Environmental Department, including supervising staff, assigning workloads, and coordinating activities with other departments.
• Oversee environmental engineering projects from concept through completion, ensuring adherence to scope, budget, schedule, quality standards, and regulatory compliance.
• Direct environmental assessments, site investigations, impact studies, and feasibility analyses to support project planning and decision-making.
• Develop effective environmental management plans that address regulatory requirements, project constraints, and long-term sustainability goals.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to environmental engineering staff, supporting professional growth and high-quality work.
• Review and approve technical reports, proposals, and other project deliverables to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency with industry standards.
• Drive business development efforts by supporting proposal preparation, contributing to corporate marketing, and participating in strategic initiatives.
• Cultivate and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a trusted technical advisor and ensuring client satisfaction.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including other engineering disciplines and public agencies, to align project objectives and resolve issues.
• Apply a strong understanding of environmental regulations and standards to guide project design, permitting, and compliance activities.
• Utilize industry software and analytical tools to support environmental modeling, data analysis, and reporting.
• Make informed, timely decisions on project issues by applying sound analytical and problem-solving skills.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil (Environmental) Engineering or a closely related field.
• Professional Engineering (PE) license.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in environmental engineering.
• Consistent history of successfully leading and delivering complex environmental engineering projects.
• Strong understanding of environmental regulations and standards.
• Experience supporting projects for transportation and public agencies in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware, including PennDOT.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Civil (Environmental) Engineering or a related discipline is preferred.
• Experience contributing to business development activities, including proposal support and corporate marketing initiatives.
• Familiarity with cross-department coordination within multidisciplinary engineering or consulting environments.

This position offers flexibility to work remotely, with a preference for candidates who can occasionally visit the office as needed for meetings, collaboration, or project reviews. The work involves using standard environmental and engineering software tools in a professional consulting environment focused on delivering high-quality, compliant projects. This is a Permanent position based out of Mechanicsburg, PA.

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $135000.00/yr.
