Job Title: Entry Level Distribution Engineer
Job Description
Join a dynamic team as a Distribution Engineer, where you will play a crucial role in connecting new homes and commercial businesses to the energy grid or upgrading existing connections. This position offers a blend of fieldwork and remote work, allowing you to apply your engineering skills in both hands-on and design capacities.
Responsibilities
- Conduct fieldwork to gather necessary data, including taking notes, pictures, and measurements to create comprehensive work packages.
- Develop electrical drawings and perform electrical analysis to determine required materials for site projects.
- Execute engineering calculations such as structural analysis of poles, cable pulling, electric demand, transformer sizing, voltage drop and flicker, and coordination of protective devices.
- Create a Bill of Materials (BOM) using the SAP software system.
- Collaborate with utility companies to ensure the successful implementation of the electrical work package by their field installation team.
- Interact daily with supervisors, peer groups, and customers, presenting factual information and solving problems with professional concepts.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering or an Associate's Degree with relevant experience.
- 0-2 years of relevant experience or a Master's Degree.
- Experience working directly with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company.
- Proficiency with CAD tools, such as AutoCAD and Microstation.
- Ability to lift 20 pounds and walk up to 2 miles on unpaved surfaces.
- Must provide own reliable transportation.
- Live in or near Muskegon, Traverse City, Cadillac, Hamilton, Allegan, or Hastings, MI.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
- Familiarity with PoleForeman, SAP, and Microstation.
- Fundamentals of Engineering certification.
- Strong communication skills, both written and interpersonal.
- Collaborative mindset, able to work effectively in teams.
- Professional demeanor and positive attitude.
Work Environment
This position offers a flexible work environment with opportunities for remote work. Field inspections constitute 10%-20% of your time, while 60%-80% will be dedicated to engineering and developing design packages. The remaining 10% involves administrative tasks and customer follow-up. You will work in a territory around Traverse City, MI. Additional Territories: Boyne City, Cadillac, Big Rapids, Grand Rapids, North Grand Rapids, Sparta, Greenville, Lansing.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sparta, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $29.00/hr.
