This role seeks a motivated and detail-oriented Designer II who will coordinate, design, and manage utility infrastructure relocations affected by roadway, bridge, and other civil engineering projects. The position requires strong technical design capabilities, clear communication, and a proactive approach to solving complex field and design challenges. You will contribute directly to the successful delivery of infrastructure projects by producing accurate design documentation and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and design outside plant (OSP) utility relocations impacted by roadway, bridge, and other civil engineering projects.
  • Prepare and update detailed design drawings and plans using AutoCAD, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
  • Utilize GIS and Civil Map tools to analyze existing utility layouts and develop relocation solutions.
  • Support the management of utility relocation projects by tracking design progress, documentation, and revisions.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and other project stakeholders to clarify requirements and resolve design issues.
  • Interpret civil engineering plans and related documents to determine the impact on existing utilities.
  • Organize and maintain project files, drawings, and records to ensure information remains current and accessible.
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Communicate clearly with internal team members to provide status updates and identify potential design or coordination challenges early.
  • Apply sound judgment and attention to detail to deliver high-quality design work with minimal supervision.

Essential Skills

  • 1–3 years of experience in utility relocation or a closely related discipline preferred.
  • Associate degree in Civil Engineering, AutoCAD Design, or a related technical field.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD for creating and modifying design drawings.
  • Proficiency with GIS tools for mapping and analyzing utility locations.
  • Experience using Civil Map or similar civil design mapping software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for documentation, reporting, and communication.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a project team.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
  • Effective time management skills with a focus on meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in design and documentation.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with project stakeholders.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Milwaukee, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $30.00/hr.
