Job Description
This role focuses on building, programming, and testing prototype PTZ positioners, camera systems, and electronic circuit boards in a hands-on lab environment. You will work with cameras, motors, sensors, and mechanical components, document your work through detailed test reports, and support continuous improvement of advanced electro-mechanical systems.
Responsibilities
- Build complete camera and PTZ systems in the lab, including assembly of electronic and mechanical components.
- Program and test microcontroller-based electronic circuit boards to ensure proper functionality and performance.
- Prepare detailed test reports and system documentation that clearly summarize test procedures, results, and findings.
- Create wire harness drawings, build wire harnesses, and perform thorough testing to verify correct operation.
- Perform extensive crimping and soldering work on cables, connectors, and circuit boards to a high quality standard.
- Test motors, cameras, sensors, and electronic boards to validate performance and diagnose issues.
- Troubleshoot and replace mechanical components such as gears, bearings, and chains, including lubricating mechanical parts as part of problem resolution.
- Test, adjust, and replace camera sensors and lenses on problematic units to restore proper image quality and system performance.
- Use test equipment such as oscilloscopes and other diagnostic tools to analyze signals and verify electronic performance.
- Collaborate with engineering and technical staff to support prototype builds, design iterations, and system improvements.
- Follow established lab procedures, safety practices, and documentation standards while working on multiple projects.
- Associate’s degree in electronics, robotics technology, or a closely related technical field.
- 2 years of experience working with motor controls, electrical systems, and standard electrical components, circuit cards, and wiring.
- Strong electronics knowledge, including understanding of circuits, components, and basic design concepts.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting electronic and electro-mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
- Hands-on experience programming and testing microcontroller-based electronic boards.
- Extensive crimping and soldering experience on cables, connectors, and circuit boards.
- Experience preparing and interpreting wire harness drawings and building harnesses to specification.
- Experience testing motors, cameras, sensors, and electronic boards.
- Ability to test and service mechanical components, including gears, bearings, and chains.
- Experience adjusting and replacing camera sensors and lenses.
- Computer networking knowledge and experience relevant to camera and control systems.
- Ability to use test equipment such as an oscilloscope for diagnostics and verification.
- Background in aerospace and defense (A&D) or similar high-reliability environments.
- Experience working with PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) camera systems or similar electro-mechanical platforms.
- Familiarity with documenting test procedures, results, and system configurations in a clear and organized manner.
- Comfort working on prototype and early-stage systems where designs may evolve rapidly.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, reliable work.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and technicians in a lab setting.

This position is based on-site in a dedicated lab environment focused on PTZ camera systems, positioners, and related electronics. You will work hands-on with cameras, motors, sensors, microcontroller-based boards, and mechanical assemblies such as gears, bearings, and chains. The role involves frequent use of tools and test equipment, including soldering and crimping tools, oscilloscopes, and other electronic diagnostics equipment. The environment supports close collaboration with other technicians and engineers and offers significant practical, hands-on experience with advanced electro-mechanical systems and prototypes.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Northbrook, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
