Job Description

This Electrical Engineer role is a well-rounded Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls (EIC) position, focused on taking ownership of project work across the full lifecycle of industrial process systems. The successful candidate will lead electrical, controls, and instrumentation scope, support design and implementation from concept through commissioning, and provide ongoing technical support to customers. This role is ideal for someone who understands how entire processes work, enjoys a mix of design and field work, and wants to take full ownership of projects while contributing to a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical, controls, and instrumentation scope across multiple industrial projects, ensuring alignment with overall process requirements.
• Design motor control centers (MCCs), power distribution systems, and perform detailed electrical load calculations for plant installations.
• Develop, integrate, and optimize instrumentation and control systems to support reliable and efficient process operations.
• Lay out plant electrical infrastructure, including equipment placement, cable routing, and panel locations to meet performance and safety standards.
• Program and troubleshoot PLCs and HMIs, with a primary focus on Rockwell / Allen-Bradley platforms and related automation systems.
• Prepare detailed specifications for MCCs, electrical equipment, and instrumentation to support procurement and installation activities.
• Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and purchasing teams to select and procure appropriate electrical and instrumentation equipment.
• Issue bid packages to electrical contractors, support contractor evaluation, and contribute to contractor selection decisions.
• Oversee installation activities on site to ensure work aligns with design intent, industry standards, and project requirements.
• Support site commissioning, startup, and system validation, working directly in the field to bring systems online safely and effectively.
• Provide ongoing customer support and troubleshooting post-installation, resolving electrical, controls, and instrumentation issues in a timely manner.
• Execute retrofit projects within existing plant infrastructure, developing solutions that work within real-world constraints.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and other stakeholders to ensure designs are manufacturable, compliant, and cost-effective.
• Participate in both office-based design work and on-site deployment, startup, and commissioning activities as required by project demands.
• Contribute to a team-oriented culture by sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues, and helping build best practices in electrical, controls, and instrumentation engineering.
• Develop into a role where you can mentor junior engineers as the team grows, taking increasing ownership of projects and technical direction.

Essential Skills

• At least 3 years of experience in electrical design engineering in a process environment, with a solid understanding of how complete industrial processes operate.
• Proven exposure to AutoCAD for electrical design, including creating and modifying electrical schematics and layout drawings.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience programming and troubleshooting PLCs and HMIs, with a preference for Rockwell / Allen-Bradley platforms.
• Hands-on experience with commissioning and on-site work, including controls, programming, and startup activities in industrial environments.
• Strong proficiency in PLC programming, HMI programming, and electrical design for industrial automation systems.
• Ability to read, create, and troubleshoot electrical schematics and P&ID drawings.
• Experience with Rockwell automation technologies, including Allen-Bradley PLCs and associated software tools.
• Demonstrated troubleshooting skills for electrical, instrumentation, and control systems in a process environment.
• Understanding of instrumentation engineering principles and their application in industrial process control.
• Comfort working across electrical, instrumentation, and controls disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
• Ability to coordinate with vendors and contractors and communicate technical requirements clearly.
• Willingness and ability to travel for site work and commissioning activities as required by projects.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• AutoCAD Electrical experience, including detailed electrical panel and wiring design, is a strong asset.
• Experience with Rockwell / Allen-Bradley automation ecosystems, including FactoryTalk and related tools, is beneficial.
• Background working with thermal systems, building management systems (BMS), or similar industrial control applications is an asset.
• Interest in mentoring junior engineers and contributing to the growth and development of the engineering team.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
• Demonstrated ability to take ownership of projects and manage responsibilities across design, implementation, and support.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Surrey, BC.

The pay range for this position is $48.07 - $55.29/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Surrey,BC.
