Our client is seeking an entry-level engineer for its Transmission Protection & Control Department.

This position is focused on the design and application of Substation Integration and Automation (SIA) systems for our client's transmission and distribution substations.

The engineer will learn to provide application and configuration files used to set up the SCADA, remote engineering access, and transfer of other information needed from the substation for capital improvement projects with emphasis on safety, quality, schedule, and costs.

The position will also be involved in the process of working out technical problems that arise and determining the best solutions for our cleints Transmission.

Major Job Responsibilities Include:

• Ability to create configuration files that best utilize our clients SIA standards
• Provide detailed configuration files & engineering field support for construction and commissioning personnel
• Be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Ability to develop effective plans, establish goals, and monitor progress toward task completion
• Knowledge and technical understanding of operational purpose and application of substation equipment
• Ability to understand and analyze digital communication circuits
• Position will support clients storm restoration efforts
• Support operations and construction functions to ensure a reliable, safe, and secure power system
• Develop SIA schemes that support the operation of an efficient & dependable power system
• Handle multiple projects simultaneously, setting priorities, and using effective time management and organizational skills to achieve project team goals

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Emphasis in Electrical Engineering

Relevant Coursework would include Power System Analysis, Protective Relaying, Control Systems, and Digital Electronics

Previous work experience - doesn't have to be engineering related

The manager wants to see someone who has a good work ethic

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of basic Electrical Power System Theory is required. Working knowledge of Digital Communications, including DNP, SES92, SELFM, is highly preferred

Working knowledge of CAD

Strong computer, time management & excellent communication skills (oral & written)

This is a Contract position based out of Birmingham, AL.

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
