Job Description
This role offers an opportunity for an electrical drafter or designer to develop a strong foundation in control systems design using AutoCAD Electrical. You will work closely with experienced engineers and designers to create accurate, organized, and high-quality technical documentation that brings automation and control systems to life. The position combines hands-on project work, structured mentorship, and exposure to real-world industrial and process automation systems, providing a clear path to build a long-term engineering design career.
Responsibilities
- Develop engineering drawings such as power one-line diagrams, network cabling layouts, and P&IDs based on engineering redlines.
- Create detailed electrical schematics in AutoCAD Electrical using smart components, including power distribution, drive systems, and PLC I/O modules.
- Produce electrical control panel assembly drawings from engineering bills of material.
- Support drawing updates, redline incorporation, and cleanup for project documentation and archival purposes.
- Collaborate closely with drafters, designers, and lead engineers to ensure consistency, accuracy, and adherence to project schedules.
- Apply electrical design standards and best practices to control panel layout and controls design work.
- Use AutoCAD Electrical tools such as smart blocks, Circuit Builder, and I/O Import to improve drawing quality and efficiency.
- Contribute to real-world automation and control systems projects by delivering high-quality drafting and design deliverables.
- Participate in a collaborative team environment focused on learning, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
Essential Skills
- At least 2 years of experience in controls systems drafting using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Proficiency in electrical design and schematic development for control systems.
- Hands-on experience creating control panel layouts and control panel drawings.
- Strong skills using AutoCAD Electrical (ACADe), including smart components and schematic tools.
- Experience drafting industrial or process automation systems.
- Ability to interpret engineering redlines, bills of material, and technical documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, OneNote, and PowerPoint.
- Working knowledge of PLC-based control systems and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
- Understanding of relevant electrical standards and codes such as UL and NEC as they apply to control panels and electrical design.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Paul, MN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
