Job Description

The Drafting Manager serves as both a hands-on designer and a leader of offshore design teams, overseeing the complete drafting process for custom metal structural products. This role focuses on metal structural design using Autodesk Inventor, ensuring that each project meets unique client specifications while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency. The Drafting Manager also develops standard operating procedures and drives continuous improvement in drafting processes.

Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on drafting and 3D modeling work using Autodesk Inventor for custom aluminum and steel structures.
• Lead, coordinate, and mentor offshore design teams to ensure accurate, timely, and high-quality design output.
• Translate client specifications into detailed structural designs, recognizing that each project is unique and custom.
• Develop, document, and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) for drafting and design workflows.
• Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, consistency, and quality in the drafting function.
• Conduct thorough quality control reviews of all designs before release to the production floor.
• Apply knowledge of weld symbols and structural design standards to produce accurate fabrication drawings.
• Collaborate closely with the fabrication shop and other internal stakeholders to resolve design issues and support production.
• Work with aluminum and steel structural concepts, including bridge design, marine construction, and related metal fabrication applications.
• Use CAD tools, including Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD, and potentially SolidWorks and Civil 3D, to create and modify drawings and models.
• Adapt quickly to changing priorities and customer requirements in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Manage schedules and support the team in meeting project deadlines, especially when there is pressure to hit production and delivery dates.
• Foster a collaborative, calm, and solutions-focused atmosphere within the drafting team and across the office.

Essential Skills

• At least 3 years of hands-on experience using Autodesk Inventor for mechanical or structural drafting and design.
• Strong proficiency in metal structural design, particularly with aluminum and steel structures.
• Proven experience performing quality control reviews of designs before release to production.
• Ability to interpret and apply weld symbols accurately in drawings.
• Experience working in a metal fabrication or small fabrication shop environment.
• Proficiency with CAD tools such as Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
• Solid understanding of structural design principles related to steel, aluminum, and metal fabrication.
• Ability to manage and coordinate offshore design teams while also performing individual drafting work.
• Experience creating and implementing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for drafting or design processes.
• Demonstrated ability to improve process efficiencies within a drafting or design environment.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a small, tight-knit team.
• Comfort working under schedule pressure while maintaining attention to detail and design quality.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience designing aluminum or steel structures used in bridge design, bridge construction, or marine construction.
• Background in marine, civil, or structural applications, including marine construction or marine structures.
• Familiarity with SolidWorks, Civil 3D, and other CAD tools used in structural or civil design.
• Experience in a metal fabrication shop, metal fab environment, or aluminum fabrication setting.
• Knowledge of aluminum structures, aluminum welding, and related fabrication practices.
• Exposure to mechanical and civil engineering concepts related to structural and marine projects.
• Ability to thrive in a small, dynamic office where priorities can shift quickly based on team or customer needs.
• Calm, steady demeanor with the flexibility to pivot and adapt to changing project requirements.

This is a Contract position based out of Woodland, WA.

The pay range for this position is $43.00 - $53.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Woodland,WA.
